Help!

The server's resident black grenade enthusiast is seeking your help. I do pretty good on ffa on mutant and even railz now [without nades!], yet no matter how good my aim gets, my blowout losses keep piling up in 1v1. So someone help me end this trend of sucking lol

Making the right decisions every second in a duel can be hard santana. Watch demos and start asking yourself(or someone else) why and how when someone good does something impressive, or simply just works out for them.

If you watch granny, he can attack someone very smooth and fast, and he is a very good player.  If you watch naymlis or dahang you will see they might take less risks and play defensively, they will keep making things better slowly and eventually you just won't be able to do anything, then you will get spawn raped.  That's what's happening to you now, so think twice before engaging in battle, and not letting go of an area or position if you are going to die - you can't die! During the game the right weapon is chosen at the right distances with the right movement, etc. I don't think you would want to watch granny or purri, because they will just attack for the most part and you won't learn as much.  You could watch bonz running backwards with grenades as well 

 . 

Think what weapons does he have, what is he/she going to do, when are the items coming back what weapons should I control.  There's lots of situations that occur, so you won't want to let someone get a spam shot on you when they are at ya in mega room and ur coming down from lift.  But at the same time you can retake control by coming in from the lift with rockets since that can do a decent amount of damage, switch things up and come up on top vs chain and rail.  Once the players get control of the map and weapons, they will just wait out the game so you have to get something.

p.s,
the start is very critical to, so try to know where your opponent spawned and where you should go.

I think a lolidk is a lollipop shaped like a dick. And I think the black lollidicks are bigger than the white ones.

Defensive like not always rushing up the lift hallway against rockets.  Maybe they are playing like daelmun suggested, getting armor first, and not just attack.   I just notice differences between the players, they aren't playing like flarez, they are playing more like damiah.  But at the same time they can attack just as well or better.

Santana you should just keep playing, I haven't seen you play many duels.  Now a lot of the players are very fast and can grab rail quick once they damage you enough, but it's risky because you can kill them in the tunnel or coming out of water.  That's my problem at the moment, I play very slow : ).  But I started playing slow because 1) my PC is usually slow and 2)  I was just playing fast and not realizing what's going on.   Once players get the rail to, some players are good with the rail so you have to stop that.

One tip ill post right here though, and its probably just more of my opinion but its better to start dueling playing very defensive, you learn how to out smart your opponent and how to stay alive if they rush you, make them pay for it... its much easier to start defensive and learn how to play offensive that way you dont do the balls to the wall stupidity rush rush rush thing that a lot of players do.... try to play your angles, avoid damage (obviously) and make fights work for you dont let your enemy pick the fights, force them into situations where you would have the advantage through either weapons or positioning, and VERY IMPORTANT do not attack until you are ready, stack up for a fight learn how to play the ninja and it will help you out... also one thing that people tend to ignore when giving tips to newer duelers: LEARN HOW TO SPAWN FRAG, even if you just get one spawn frag in a round, thats still one more point you dont have to worry about spawn frags can win or lose you a match, if you learn how to get them you should also have a good idea of how to avoid them... just that single armor shard or small health pack can give you just enough health to survive a rail

No way. Naymlis and dahang are not more defensive than most people..... I used to duel both of these guys on a near daily basis. They are two out of the mere handful in the country that I could have a proper duel with(which is why i'd always duel them.. i'd get a 1v1 with zero gayness). As in no defensive bs and both people are fast enough and know sound well enough that we pressure each other at all the same points in the map... like seriously, you're way off in saying that.

Maybe I should have been a little bit more clear since you seem to argue with me whenever I *attempt* to steer you in the right direction(which is AWAY from your disingenuous views on q2 tdm): You said dahang and naymlis play 'more defensive than most people'.. I said you're wrong in saying that, because you are. You're 100% wrong with that statement. I don't care how many purri citations you make or stupid random dm1 duels you remember; guess what? You're still wrong, just like you are with nearly EVERYTHING you post on this forum.

lol i have watched them both play quite a lot, dahang ive seen play a lot more quakelive than quake2 where he is a VERY defensive player, naym i know will +forward a lot if he out skills the person he is playing which is most people, but if he is playing some one who can win him, by out aiming him or whatever, he plays pretty slow and defensive from what i have seen

Vae just needs to learn to accept when he's wrong. It goes hand-in-hand with not being able to accept losses as well(and in turn making an excuse for it..). I would particularly advise him not to argue anything q2-related with me being that I know probably 1,000,000x more about this game him... Literally every time I read one of his posts I say to myself 'Here's vae pretending like he knows what he's talking about again..' Most of the time I just let it go, but if he's blatantly wrong like on this topic sometimes I decide to try to steer him in the right direction. I guess I trigger a defense mechanism that doesn't want himself to be wrong, because he persists to argue points that are absolutely wrong opposed to listening and learning. Problems like this hold people back BIG time when they're trying to get better at something, like q2(or almost anything).
