Skin help...

How do I make it so that only one skin for Athena and Grunt show up in my games? I've done this before but I can't remember how I did.

I tried copying and pasting one skin en mass, then renaming the filenames, but I'm not sure if it works. Some models turned invisible when I tried that.

Delete unwanted skins from your Quake2 tree. This includes the baseq2/players tree and also the modfolder/players tree for that particular mod. Custom skins will show up as game default skins if they don't exist on your system. If you have custom skin, name it the same name as the default skins you want to override. Then configure your Q2 client to NOT download player models/skins

for mods, make SURE you don't need the custom model.   Many mods use custom models.  IE Leper Q2 won't work properly if you don't have it's custom models.  It also uses custom skins.

Tried this. Players in-game show up invisible if I deleted the model their using. What am I doing wrong?

well if you accidentally deleted the tris.md2 in each player folder along with the skins then you have no models now.

if you've mangled your quake2\baseq2\players directory with all this fiddling, you might want to just delete the whole folder and use this pak in your baseq2:

It's nothing but my players folder and it has some slightly brightened versions of the stock q2 .pcx skins, and ely's .png brightskins for capable renderers, along with the ctf skins and all of the stock player and weapon models for male, female and cyborg.

If all else fails it's a starting place since it has all the models you'll need.

I'm pretty sure you can just open the .pak in wally or pakscape, sort the folders by file type and delete all of the png and pcx files other than these:
