MY quake wont stop crashing

My quake2 wont stop crashing, and i would restall it, but i dont have the cd, and i dont have money to buy the cd right now, so what can i do to help stop my quake2 from crashing, i tried just using quake2 and nocheat and it still crazys, ill play quake2 for like 10 mins then it crash, can anyone help me please

That could be anything.
Does the computer completly freeze or can you make Q2 end task? If it completly freezes it is probably hardware problems. Either your PC is overheating or something else is faulty. It could be a lack of memory but I seriously doubt that, unless you have like 16MB of RAM or something stupid like that. But I really don't see it being a Quake 2 problem, I think its something else. Hell, even Windows could be corrupt. It may be your harddrive packing up. Is their any specific thing that makes it crash (such as a map or something like that)? Coz then it will obviously be Q2 or a combination of Q2 and hardware problems. How about without nocheat?

does this only happen when you are playing online?  if so, it may have something to do with the 'set rate' setting.  get R1Q2 ... its better anyways.  if your set rate setting is too high or low, you will get packet errors and Q2 will usually crash alot.  that is true if a few other settings are too high also.

You can always reinstall the 3.20 patch for Q2, which would refresh all your files.  Also, while tedious, rename your config.cfg file in the baseq2 folder to something else, and it will create a new config.cfg file. You'll have to manually reset all your player settings, though, if you do that.
