Heya

my biggest dream, is to build the fastest top-of-the-line system
no matter how much it costs   

unfortunatly, im having some trouble locating a compatible motherboard for everything
and a decent water cooling system. i was wondering if anyone here had any ideas

heres the specs
it was done in mS office 2003, not sure if it will work with anything else :p

Couple of questions, why dual core? and why not AMD?

I don't have Open Office installed at the moment, but the document works fine in wordpad.

Have not looked at water cooling systems myself yet, so I don't know what a good one would be.

intel doesnt have a dual core cpu yet, what i ment by dual was 2 cpus
and amd is not on par with intel yet

none of those boards have support 2 cpus

For two CPUs you might have to look for server motherboards, but then you wouldn't have the SLI.

Dual core or dual cpus would be faster for stuff like video encoding, but for games you won't see any improvement.

AMD is better than Intel and cheaper.

My advice would be to put together an AMD64 system.

amd does not have a 3.80ghz and 800fsb cpu  and 64bit is nothing to me unless i have 64 bit software
maybe im wrong? i havent really researched into amd stuff. always been an intel fanboy

i looked up dual core cpus at intels website, they have a pretty low end one tho
it seems dual core isnt really mainstream yet, but your saying dual core wont effect gaming either

this is just a list of all the top parts atm, it probably wont be anything like the system i buy when i get the cash to do so haha
great thing about this is, the parts will get better, but the general price wont   

ill take alook at that site again then, if im not looking for 2 cpu slots, i should have a much better chance at finding something

When looking at an AMD processor don't look at the Ghz, look at the number in the name.  AMD Athlon XP 3000+, runs at 2.17Ghz, but the 3000+ means it performs on par with a Intel 3.0Ghz processor.

There is a 64bit version of Windows XP Pro, plus Vista will be 64bit, and if your thinking of running Linux there are 64bit distros.

It's true, games aren't designed for dual cores, and the ones that do have optimizations for it don't run any better than the single core.
The two vid cards in SLI will be great for all the new games, although one is sufficient.

AMD also has dual core versions of the Athlon 64, but like I said, no reason to get one unless you do a lot of video editing or encoding.

Yep, it should run circles around that one you were thinking of getting, and it's about half the price.

The way they make them, inside, the way they handle code, and the intruction sets used.

I don't know all the inner workings of them, I just know about how they perform.

With a 64 bit processor and 4GB's of ram in dual channel, I don't think ddr2 matters much.

All the older amd cpus ran much hotter than intels at their spec speeds. The amds back then were considered overclocked by intels standards. They were much less stable than intels and failure rate alot more common among them. Overclocking amds back then was guaranteed trouble. I've had 2 amd processors and trouble with both, unclocked, as have alot of people I know.  All my intels have been flawless and long term. I get the same story from others who've owned both.

Don't know anything about the cpus these days, maybe amd is up to par now, but I prefer rock solid stability over performance any day, so there's no doubt I'll be going with an intel when I build a new system, based on past experience.

I believe they are more stable now than in the past, I read a lot of stuff about people who have their AMDs overclocked with out any problems.

Personally I'm not much into overclocking, I just run at what speed they're supposed to.

I have an Athlon XP 3000+ running Folding@home at 70% CPU usage all the time and it stays pretty cool at normal speed with the heatsink/fan that came with it, only a couple degrees higher than when it's sitting idle.

Playing games it can get up to 55^oC, but that's nothing to worry about.

Hi Xtife, this sounds like a fun project to me! First of all I must tell you that the clock speeds do not tell you the whole story when comparing processors.  AMD is able to use lower speeds then Intell because their CPU's perform more instructions per clock cycle then the Intell's.  I suggest you do a little research on this topic as I am too lazy to write a huge essay explaining all this.  I saw your other thread too regarding the Nvidia cards and I would like to caution you against PNY's implementation's on the NVidia chipset.  I've owned two of their cards (5900 ultra, 6800GT) and had them both crap out on me in under a year.  Now to be fair they were both replaced under the warranty but....  I am now running an ATI card (Radeon x850) and it is performing rather well.  As far as water cooling goes I have been using the Zalman unit to cool the CPU and VC. I do not over clock my current rig so it is mostly for keeping my computer sound levels to a minimum. But my CPU and VC temps are very low. Right now they are @ 25C for the CPU and 30c for the VC.

PS..AMD's newer processors have locked Multipliers hence making them a little more difficult to OC then previous generations.  You would have to buy the  FX-57 or  the  FX-55 to have the best and easiest to OC.  I have used an AMD Barton 3000+ for 2 years and am currently running the AMD 64 3700+ San Diego Core and I can tell you that I am extremely happy with the AMD chips.  My Non Oced AMD chip smokes  my brothers intell socket 755 3.6 GHz processor and my amd clock speed is 2.2 GHz.
