q2 kicker gets me kicked from IRTDM

I have had to start fresh with a new install of q2. My q2 files are on a SATA drive that I can't run atm. So I thought to fire up the q2 kicker that has so kindly been put together on a fresh install of XP.

I've added r1q2 and AC and kept Derv's config as a base. I cut out a lot of stuff minus the video settings from the autoexec.cfg and connect.tastyspleen.net... It works! Looks great!

However when I connect to IRTDM it kicks me for using md3 models(?) (gl_replacemd2 command from the supplied kicker cfg) and bad ac file checks.  This setup could not be more vanilla. No paks for brightskins or hi res textures.

I've since cut out all other vid settings from the kicker cfg to the bare basics and am not getting the md3 models error. Only the bad ac error and kicked.

Also a weird message about map locs at the start of each map load.

I don't have anything to do with running the iR servers, but I know that Dervish is pretty strict on a few things. From glancing over your condumps, it looks as though the blaster weapon might be an MD3 file as opposed to an MD2 which is what Quake2 normally uses. I'm not familiar with what MD3 files are really, perhaps a model file for Quake3. Perhaps the extension on that w_blaster file is improperly named md3 when it should be md2. Try adding the line (highlighted above in RED) that it mentions in the first condump to your config and see what happens.

I have pared down my autoexec.cfg to the basics. Not sure if even setup for the best movement/graphics etc.

The md3 error is still there. I deleted all that extra stuff that was included in the kicker autoexec.cfg.

Still the ac error. No longer allow bad ac file checks

the one it seems to be kickin for most is here: players/male/w_blaster.md2 so you might have one in a pak somewhere thats replacing the stock one.

the kick for the gl_replacemd2 command is because we stopped allowing .md3 models after razor started distributing a variety of spiked models in that format. It was a quicker fix than documenting and doin hash lists for all of the possible good ones.

I figure the stock .md2 weapon models are what pretty much everyone has used for years and they should be sufficient for any player in a team instagib environment. It's not like you'll need to guess what people are using.

I really don't think I put any non-stock models in there at all - if it turns out one slipped through, let me know. But I don't even own any paks with md3s in them.

AC doesn't just check for files, servers can instruct it to check cvars, in this case irtdm might be demanding the set gl_replacemd2 0 to keep users from seeing md3's if they have them. It might just be something in your config is setting that variable.

I looked over all the files for the q2kicker and didn't find any MD3 files. However, I did see this in the "q2kicker/baseq2/config_guide.txt" and "q2kicker/baseq2/autoexec.cfg":

set gl_replacemd2 "1"

Like I said before, add set gl_replacemd2 "0" to your config. That should work.

Perhaps the first time you started tinkering with it, it stored a copy of the cfg with that value set in it in the tourney folder or whatever folder that is used on IRTDM. You might need to go through subfolders and make sure that another cfg located in those folders isn't overriding something else.

as far as I know, gl_replacemd2 only works with aprq2 and q2pro, so r1q2 users would not be affected by removing it from their configs.

you should also check your quake2\tourney folder if you're searching for extra paks that might be the problem, since the servers run an osp tourney mod.

This would also be a good time to mention that if a cvar is set in a baseq2/autoexec.cfg and it isn't overridden by a modfolder/autoexec.cfg or another config script, that cvar remains set regardless of the mod being played. The variable may not have an influence on the client but it will still be testable by AC.

Heh, I defaulted those values to "1" for ease of addition of those files at a later date, I didn't think having it on even without any md3s around would cause anyone any issues. Oh well, now I know.

I did a quick look through of the q2kicker as it is currently posted, I was able to find the w_blaster.md2 models in the correct folders (players/male, players female etc) but they appear to be the stock ones.

Foc-  I will append my cfg with the line you mentioned and w/o again. Connect and see what happens.

Derv-  I am fairly certain I have no other paks etc on this computer. I think I may or may not have had 3.20 stand alone on before installed the kicker. Don't think so but will also uninstall and re-install q2 kicker clean. See what errors if any I generate.

J- The kicker has caused me some grief but I am sure glad it was made available. It is truly appreciated.

Yeah, it's still a big WIP, and admittedly one I haven't given serious attention to lately, due to other projects. What kind of grief have you experienced besides this? Ease of use is the first priority.

Ok clean install again. Just the kicker on this box. (R1q2 w/r1gl and ac)  and (map,env,texture and sound files from the ts file dir)

I am past the glreplacemd 0 request. I learned aprq2 auto generates an autoexec and r1q2(my exe) doesn't need this in the config and thus doesn't call for this error anymore. 1 prob down. If I were to use aprq2 I don't see how I could work around the auto generated cfg with a preset 1 as default value.

Still getting the weapon error(bad ac file check) I removed the actual file from baseq2/players/male and it kicked for the shotgun instead. It will kick for the next weapon in cue as they are deleted.
