Need help- Flooding server

I have recently started playing Q2 again after about a 4 year break. When I get into an online game, I last about 1-2 minutes before I get kicked out of the game for flooding the server. I never had this issue before. Any help in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

A couple possibilities come to mind.  Check that your cl_maxfps is not set to some large number.  120 or lower should be safe.

Also, another kind of overflow is if you are changing 'userinfo' cvars too frequently.  For example, if you have any binds you hit while you are playing that change any of the following variables frequently: spectator; gender; fov; rate; skin; name; hand.  If any of those are being changed too frequently, q2admin will kick for "flooding".

I never realized that. I mean there's probably no good reason to change that value frequently. But I have a bind for it when I find interesting hideyholes that have an obstacle blocking the right side..

ive got kicked on the jump server a few times just for trying to get the cl_maxfps switch and timing right to do a triple+ jump

Q2's one of those games where when you change the weapon position the projectile changes firing location too: left/center/right is also where the projectile comes from.  So, it's very possible to change the hand & change what you can shoot around.

I checked the maxfps. it is set to 30

I even deleted my old .cfg file that had my binds in it. Still no luck. keep getting booted.

Any other ideas?

Hmm, well... time to troubleshoot, i guess...

What is the exact error message you're seeing when kicked?  Which server are you playing on?  Which client are you using?  (type "version" in console)

What does your netgraph look like?  (type "netgraph 1" while in game)


(Note: the condump command will save your Q2 console text to a file to make it possible to copy & paste the text from there to here. E.g. "condump foo" saves the text to quake2/*/condumps/foo.txt ... where the "*" is baseq2 or whatever mod you're playing like rails, xatrix, etc.)

Oh that reminds me. There's a funny glitch in megaman  q2. If you fire a cutter blade,it will spin the opposite direction as the handedness. So left handed spins right and right handed spins left. But if you set up a bind to swap handedness, you can swap it's direction mid flight.

When I typed Netgraph 1, I got no response. When I typed Netgraph I got the response "Netgraph is "1"

Well, I've checked the q2admin source, and this is indeed the case where it concludes you are changing a userinfo cvar too frequently.

Perhaps try opening your current baseq2/config.cfg and baseq2/autoexec.cfg in Notepad, and see whether you have any binds or aliases that may be changing the following variables: spectator; gender; fov; rate; skin; name; hand.

Only other thing I can think of is to be there when you connect to the server and repeatedly query your userinfo to observe what seems to be changing.

You can also trip the flood protection when you alias taunts or gesture commands with the attack command. I think you need to inspect your binds and aliases to be certain you aren't doing tricky/foolish binds in an attempt to lag other players.
