New Pak - PrimoTurbo's Q2 Pak (recreated nearly all icons)

I made a new Pak file for Quake2, most icons are made from scratch while others used screenshots and resizing/modifying.

Nearly every Quake2 icon was recreated. I didn't remake the k_ icons but did make them fit the theme by adding a black border. There are number of variations of the i_health (skull) icon in the pak. Some of the icons are in PNG format, you will need a Quake2 client that supports PNGs. You can do whatever you want with this pak (modify, re-release, etc). Mention of my name would be nice but not necessary.

Here is also a comparison between the icons, I tried to keep the icons some what similar especially in their positioning.


When is the mega health icon ever used, when i run over a mega health it shows the i_health icon both in r1q2 and regular quake2? Any clue, I swear I have seen the mega health icon at some point. Also when do u ever see the blaster ammo icon?

While making this I realized that the hyperblaster models have a different handle position one facing away from the player and one toward the player. I made the icon based on the first person view model, facing away from the player. Here is a screenshot:

ya ive noticed that lightning symbol is never used too
only time ive ever seen that lightning symbol used was in kots2000 whenever the "bide" was used

There are a lot of icons, sprites, and even models that exist in the original paks that were never used. Bubble, fire, lightning icon... etc.

Much of this has to do with the alpha of quake 2. The alpha version used the explosion sprites and had additional items, such as mines. They were not finished and would essentially crash the game but it was a different experience. In fact I think there was even a face next to the health ala doom in the alpha if I remember correctly.

The hyper I'm surprised that more people don't notice the difference. It is a little used weapon but it always stuck out to me. One thing that I hadn't noticed for a long long time is that the female model flips you off every time she jumps. I felt like a total newb for not noticing that until doing view weaps for megaman.

I'm assuming the new rockets and grenades would pass with Anticheat, right? You didn't modify the models themselves? If they are "unknown" modified models, even if they aren't spiked, AC won't recognize them as legit.

The models are original only the skins are different, however there is a modified explosion model which basically removes the explosion inside the pak. I didn't make it however.

OFF TOPIC!

I think the lightning symbol was made for the lightning gun ammo (like the one in Quake1), but they never made it. The pak also contains unused models for a flare gun (CTF used the model for the grappling hook and reskinned it), a disintegrator using the BFG model but a different animation (doesn't pull the handle on the BFG after shooting), nuke ammo and yeah, mines.

Also, each ammo type is stored in a folder called 'medium'. They probably planned to add 'large' or 'small' ammo with a different ammo values.

A few monsters have unused animations too; berserker jumping into the air and smashing the floor, or running with its arm charged in the air. The brain walking while its chest tentacles are flailing around. The parasite having some kinda weird break animation where he goes crazy and makes a failed backflip or something. The animations are coded, but just never used in the game. They never get called.

Interesting information, I was just messing with the q2test coincidentally trying to see what was different in the paks. What's interesting is that the Quake2 damage/health face was very well implemented in the test and for some odd reason they removed it from the release. Here I pulled out all the images of the face from the pak file, they must of spent some time drawing it all.



I noticed BFG was called disintegrator (based on the icon) and there is a completely different weapon for the actual BFG, I cannot even figure out what the icon is supposed to be of. They also had goggles icon for an item,
