heyas

im hoping some people might a thing or 2 about video cards
i currently have a geforce 4600

i was wanting to upgrade to a geforce 5950, i was unable to find one in my area tho

so my next choice is a geforce 6600 (non GT and non PCIe)

after looking at the specs of the 5950 and the 6600 and comparing them to my 4600
it seems the 6600 is somewhat of a step down from the 5950. but i could be wrong
considering the price of both cards, id like to get the better one. and im not sure what to do :p

so im hoping someone here could help me clear up this head ache for me

Why do you go nVidia may I ask? ATi is the new king of graphics, and they offer better value-for-money.
Check out the Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB AGPx8. It's roughly the same price as the GeForce 6600(well at least it is here).

iv always been a fanboy for nvidia and intel

i dont have alot of experince with ati hardware
so i wouldnt even know where to look to compare the nvidia ones

I was also a fan of nVidia, but then ATi took a huge leap in both quality and affordability, and now Radeon>GeForce.
I'm just saying that you should look into getting some Radeon specs. You'll be surprised at what features you can get for your money, compared to GeForce ... and that's coming from an electronics/PC shop manager.

my big question here is, would it make a huge difference from my older 4600? if its hardly noticable
then it hink i may wait on the prices to go down still

Like I said - ATi = very good value for money. You can get a killer Radeon card for the same price as an above-average GeForce. Radeon also seems to run smoother and with less trouble than GeForce. A Radeon with a similar price to the 6600 you're thinking of getting, will kick the shit outta your current card. Also remember that these benchmarks that people do on these cards don't always mean THAT much. It's a combination of specs (3DMARK points, triangles-per-second, anti-aliasing power, Direct X 9 compatibility - important for new games, etc) that makes a better card. Well, then again, if you only play Q2, then why the hell would you wanna upgrade from a 4600? It won't make much of a difference, if at all.

i would go nuts if i did lol
i have a big problem with playing one game for more then a month or 2
i hate it lol. its why i suck so god damn much

if you know so much about radeon cards
maybe you can direct me to decent card? somethign with agp8x support, directx9 support
and has a price less then $300 CDN

That's what it costs (roughly - its our selling price) for a Gigabyte ATi Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB 123Bit, D-SUB+ DVI+ TV-OUT, DirectX 9 +OpenGL, Dual RAMDACs, Multiview.

It obviously will be off that price quite a bit, me being the other side of the world.

ill have to see if they ship to canada, most places dont

its almost like a thirdworld country as far as computers go. the US is the center of the earth

i cant buy any computer parts where i live, and i live in a pretty big city
90% of all sites on the net are in the US. and most of them dont ship to canada
