OSP has built in gladiator bots that are customizeable to a certain degree, and dont require you to manually generate route files for them. you still need an .aas file but winbspc will make one for you from the .bsp.

downside: Good luck finding source code, and OSP crashes on certain custom maps.

the 3zb and goldsoft bots were much better in terms of pathfinding and movement skills but I think they had to have route files.

I'll poke around the net for open source ones.

3zb and 3zb2 are able to determine routes in game, but according to the readme I read o-so-many years ago, it has to do with them following your movement. So they won't jump down onto a platform below them until they "observe" you do it. I'm sure that this information is never actually saved anywhere, so they have to learn a map every time that you play.

You'll notice this most in the first 3zb in which bots could be seen continuously running into walls and ducking looking for new paths.

I found code for the 3rd ziggok bot v.2

these, when set up correctly, were capable of playing dm1 like a real person, doing mega jumps and such..
You'd have to make route files for them to use on other maps, but some may be available on the net already for the regular dm maps.

I think the paths are stored to a .chn file or something..

the files below are:

* Manual
* Source code
* compiled bot
