Scientology is Fraud in Any Country. It's only officially fraud in France. One of these days the U.S. will catch on too.

Scientology was created as a joke. Hubbard created it after a discussion between himself, Heinlein, Asimov and Campbell when they were all still writing pulp for Campbell. I am not sure if Harlan Ellison was involved, I seem to recall him writing about the discussion. Heinlein and Asimov both wrote about it. The point was whether a church could be founded on made-up principles and disciplines. Hubbard proved it could be done. A recluse later in life, he was probably imprisoned by his own followers. (for his own good, of course) He was probably unable to pop the "gotcha" if he ever intended to renounce it for what it is.

Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" is RAH's reply to Hubbard's Scientology in some ways. The Fosterites being the C. of S. and Foster being murdered by his successor, prophetic in more ways than one. "The marks love a big blow-off."

Nah, I got out of that Church of the SubGenius crazy shit just before my senior year of high school. Actually paid for a membership and all. Went to a few of the devivals in Atlanta back when Rev. Dr. Nolan Voyd And Rev. Swoozie the Floozie did the local Co$ radio show at Georgia Tech which always came on right after the national Co$ broadcast hosted by Rev. Dr. Ivan Stang. Was usually some pretty wacky shit, the kinda weird stuff TMF would probably love.
