Hi,
yes I remember how tricky it was to get in and out of that window opening. ;)
I know that cl_maxfps is not important  - you only need grapplehook and the crouch + forward keys.

To get in, shoot the hook in the left corner and keep the crouch key pressed the whole time, then shoot the hook high at the wall and try to crouch forward. Always aim the hook up. I recorded a demo on q2ctf1 to show you how to do it. I can't explain it in words so you'll have to keep trying and trying 8)

I watch your demo and see that you don´t fallen after throw your hook again. You stay unmovable in air and at wall, then you can sweep to into the window back. I made all yours steps that you said. Also made a bind that when I crounch stay with 20 fps to help me sweep by window.

But I can´t made it because I fall every time that throw my hook again. My hook hit the wall or ceiling, but then I drop in the water and can´t enter to window. Do such exist a command, cvar that can help me with it?

Hehe well Pepe, I just tried it again and now I can't do it !  Lol, I did the exact same as before but now I also keep falling in the water...
I think it is one of those weird Q2 things where you have to hit a certain sweet spot.  The window opening is big enough to crouch through but the upper and lower frame are placed exactly above each other so there's no place to stand on. Obviously it's possible to get in somehow but I have no idea what the real trick is. Sorry dude. :dohdohdoh:

Just to not have to create another thread on the same subject ...

Look this ctf match with the legendary ctf player called Fettson:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk47ETnvRAs

I know how to get out of the window on my team side, I need low my fps to 25. But until today I have not I learned the trick of slipping inside the side enemy window of q2ctf1! HOW I DO IT???

 :help:  :bigcry:

Fettson makes it look so easy.

Oh, about Frames per Second (fps), what is the effecte and why you should change your values to go up crates's 64 units and slide under tight spaces? Why this happen? Why I can't cimb a 64unit crate with low fps in negative area, but i CAN do it with more fps? Just why higher fps helps with it?

thanks! ;)

changing fps is an exploit. it allows the user to evade attacks a bit easier. (similiarly like how a player can flood a server with packets to make a laggy effect.)  also access places normally that couldn't be accessed in that way. limiting the fps on servers should be implemented if possible.  set min_fps 60?

That is not necessary...

(purposefully not going into the mechanics of what the lower cl_maxfps *actually* does, nor golgo's views on what it does, lol)
there's far more negative effects from using <60 fps than not, leaving there to be little to no incentive to even take advantage of someone being able to 'evade attacks a bit easier'(or whatever).. not to mention the likelihood of being able to implement that practically, in an advantageous way, on someone good is around .00001%.

2 things RQ:

1) Acmectf.com has forums for the North American Q2CTF community. You might get better answers there. These forums seems more centered on DM style mods. Not trying to say that help isn't avail here either though.

2) I casted a game of Fetteson awhile back. I may have been drinking at the time, so it is what it is.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J32W-5xVspQ

3) Although I always saw the window trink done, and have done it a few times myself, it was nothing I mastered. I seen some people get in the window with no use of the grapple. I think the map wasn't designed so that you could go through the window (either direction) and imo, I think it ruined that map. Just my opinion. The map is no longer popular in the NA scene.

changing fps is an exploit. it allows the user to evade attacks a bit easier. (similiarly like how a player can flood a server with packets to make a laggy effect.)

High client->server FPS, within reason, doesn't cause lag on dedicated servers with adequate bandwidth.

If you look at the bump in expenses last May, it was a bandwidth overrun due to script kiddies flooding our quake servers with multiple tens of thousands of packets per second, using the quake servers as a middle man in a traffic amplification attack:

I suppose I *wish* that had caused lag in the game, as I might have noticed it much sooner.

But no, some of the quake servers were happily processing 20,000 packets per second without breaking a sweat.

limiting the fps on servers should be implemented if possible.  set min_fps 60?

We use sv_fpsflood 200 on tastyspleen Q2 servers, as there's just no reason to have clients packeting at higher rates. But it wasn't a lag issue.

Getting in the window requires a lower fps drop than to get out.    Getting out of the window I recall can be done with anything below 35.  To get in I always needed to set it to 7 fps

Years ago you could even set your fps to zero creating fake lag which fortunately on ACME is impossible as they have min fps set.   Can't get in the window anymore either, which is fine by my because no one else does, and no one plays q2ctf1 anymore.

I used to have this in my config file for the map:

alias +fd "cl_maxfps 7;+movedown"
alias -fd "-movedown;cl_maxfps 120"

alias +fl "cl_maxfps 24;+movedown"
alias -fl "-movedown;cl_maxfps 120"

bind z "z$bank"
alias zNA "+movedown"
alias zCT "+fd"
alias zSH "+fl"

What if my computer can't handle 60fps?   You want to keep people with old computers from playing quake2.  Jerk.

Obviously if your computer can't handle 60, it won't display 60. it will just function at the highest possible frame rate i believe. Buy a new computer anyways, it's 2013. it's affordable for anyone now, even a cheap barebones system can run quake2 more than optimal. No excuse.
