Hi,
my first guess would be that it's got something to do with pressing too many or certain keys at a time. Especially in the middle of a battle when you're strafing, ducking, jumping and shooting you're pressing a lot of keys, and it's not uncommon to hit nearby keys as well.

If you use the r1q2 client there's a cvar that might help:
in_dinputkeyboard [0/1] - (Enable DirectInput keyboard support. May help with those experiencing "keyjams" where input continues to occur after releasing a key or a key takes a moment to register. Default 0.)

Or maybe (if you use windows) you can find something like Togglekeys/Stickykeys in Window's accessibility features. Also, if you know what you're doing, there should be an option in the BIOS to disable certain beeps like keyboard errors.

My computer does that off and on when I'm trying to strafe. It doesn't like that fact I'm pressing simultaneous arrow keys, along with clicking my mouse and beeps an error. Other times it's fine and will allow me to strafe with no protest. But I wouldn't say the beep is particularly loud.

Put a small piece of scotch tape over the speaker. You may poke a small hole in it [the tape] with a thumb tack to allow some of the sound out.  :P

Check the bios to see if there is an auto-repeat rate for the keyboard. Turn it off or slow it down.
Turn off or delay the auto-repeat rate in Windows.
Unplug the (bleeping) speaker. :)

The speaker DOES have a purpose, so don't lose it, it may come in handy.  ;)

its not the speaker making the noise, i think there is a thing on the board making the sound, not sure where as i have not opened it up and had a good look. it is still doing it and does not appear to have a option in the bios though there is one for the keyboard which i have turned down to one second but it is still doing it
i think i might have to just put up with it.. thanx for the good and silly help !

dude its a speaker.. most later motherboards have a small type (i think a condenser size) speaker, that looks like a mini-mike or small capacitor.. Hey if it doesnt cause any problems aside from the sound just dont be bothered by it.. You may also wanna check out if just "maybe" theres a cat stuck under ur cpu.. maybe its the one makin the noise.  :lolsign:

If you use the r1q2 client there's a cvar that might help:
in_dinputkeyboard [0/1] - (Enable DirectInput keyboard support. May help with those experiencing "keyjams" where input continues to occur after releasing a key or a key takes a moment to register. Default 0.)

Thanks for the tip. I had similar issues before on an old laptop. I also had a special uber gamer keyboard with a removable top that had peripherals for different games. When drivers weren't installed correctly, I got this same issue. Beeps, keys not registering, repeating key strokes.

Like was said before, your best bet is to start in the cmos setup and look for some kind of keyboard error beeps. After you try that, see if your keyboard needs any special drivers. Finally try a different keyboard to see if the problem persists.

It's called a piezoelectric speaker, and I was being serious.  ;) When I had dial up, I used scotch tape to cover the speaker on my MODEM, easily one of the most annoying sounds I've ever heard.

if you hate that annoying high frequency beep sound you can remove the tiny speaker and replace it with a subwoofer so that its sounds like rumbling..  :lolsign:

Hi Damager,

If you're using XP, I would install Tweak UI:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
On the right side, find Tweak UI: download, install and launch it.

There, in the general tab, uncheck "Beep on errors," hit apply, restart if necessary and voilà!

If you're using Vista, try this instead:

Device Manager (Start -> Run -> devmgmt.msc [Enter]) -> View -> Show Hidden Devices -> Non Plug and Play -> Beep -> Disable.
