Peewee you're wrong about that though, it is uncharacteristic of him. I really think that Receptive_Mink was daelmun, but mostly by play style. Daelmun wouldn't care enough to keep his whereabouts secret... I like to think that I know him at the least better than most people, and that it would be unlikely for him to pull something like that..which is why I have mixed feelings on the issue.

I don't know the guy at all, but I did find in his own words an instance where he has done the exact same thing before. If that's not enough to say that it is plausible then I don't know what is.

As for hiding his whereabouts, I've done a lot of research for the shoutcasts and almost every single person has either a linked-in account, facebook account, former employer website, or support forum account tied to their own username that provides their real name. Most people don't care because that is pretty useless information and are on friendly enough terms to share that information with their friends. daelmun is the first person I've come across, and like I said I've done this same thing A LOT for shoutcasts, where there is absolutely nothing tying his real name to his account. The first use of his username "daelmun" that I could find was in 2004 during the forming of devine (well the clan that predates devine). I'm fairly sure that he used a different username while playing on the MSN Zone because a hotmail account is required to have an msn account and no reference to any existed. There is a daelmun@hotmail.com but that was for a supposedly north american clan and didn't contain any members named daelmun as far as I could see from the archived forum post.

But the basic point is that daelmun was VERY GOOD at hiding his identity and his wherabouts. The only reason why we even "think" that he is from Oslo is because we had quadz pull IP addresses and chat logs. That's quite a bit of digging just to get pretty unreliable information.

So I'm not trying to convince anyone that he is alive and well. I'm just pointing out that we know absolutely nothing about what happened and assuming things like "he would let someone know" is taking things for granted. The only evidence that we have that something may have happened is that 2 years is a long time to be inactive and a rumor containing the words "a friend told me"

The evidence we have that he did just take time off is that he has admittedly done it before using the same username that we see in the chat logs that uses a similar IP from the same country. But both could still be true. 2 years is a long time and it's just as likely to have a car accident when you are active in a community as when you are taking time off.

His name is erik.... I've seen his last name too he doesn't hide it. Some people like to keep their personal life and gaming life separate. I think you're over-analyzing a situation that you could be more familiar with.

Also... I've never met someone who loves q2 more than him. EVER. There's people more obsessive about it... but no one felt as passionately as he did; he basically gave himself to q2. So yes, the statement 'he would have told someone' carries a little weight for me.

I played sidelines about 2 months ago, and I really thought he was daelmun at the time. If anything, he plays just like him, and pings about the same. But I also figured a few euro players good at jumps might look like him..

Well I'm about as certain as one can be that receptive_mink is in fact daelmun. I played on the zone during the time he was referring to about coming back after a long break and not wanting to be bothered. I remember playing him many times and I could tell from his play style / the way he talked it was him and I ended up having a couple conversations with him where he ended up letting me know. As for sidelines, I haven't played him personally, but hope it's daelmun. Daelmun is one of the nicest / coolest guys I've met playing this game and I've probably played more 1v1s / hilarious team games with him than almost anyone else.
