i never said that all american beers are shit, i was talking  about the bud and coors beers. Ive looked at what Anheuser-Busch brew, and they have very decent beers. Looking forward to taste more of these :righteous:

I think is the problem with most common beers, like here in Canada its the same, Labatt Blue, molson Canadian, Molson export, Labatt 50,etc. are not great beers. Common beers are just common, nothing stands out for me. Im not a connaisseur, i just like to try different tastes here and there.

In Quebec, before 2000, we had beers in fridges at the corner store (we call these place Depanneurs). All these beers were common beers, and there was cheaper beer like milwaukee's best, Colt 45, Wild Cat, Toreador, etc. If you wanted a decent beer, you had to go to SAQ (liquor store) to buy some. But since 2000, there are many different beers in "depanneurs" that are available to everyone. Before, we use to think Labatt Blue, Budweiser and Coors light were good compared with other beers in the depanneur, but since that time, hundreds of different beers are available, and now these has-been beers are just not my taste anymore.

No wonder they sell a 24 of bud light and coors light 21$ in super markets, it has become the cheap beers of our times! Some people like drinking beer that taste like water, and this is fine! :bananaw00t:

I think you're exaggerating a little foc. American beer doesn't have much taste primarily because it's brewed with rice, something that's like 100x more bland than barley.

To my knowledge, Busch and Miller do not use rice at all. If they did, it still wouldn't really effect the taste. The Barley is mainly what is fermented to produce the alcohol content, like rice and other grains are fermented to produce the alcohol content of vodkas. If there ARE any beer breweries using rice in the fermentation process, it's only because they aren't using enough barley (which is SUPPOSED to be one of the only 3 ingredients in beer) to produce a satisfactory alcohol content. Hops have a much greater fragrance and flavor. It's absolutely true that most mass producers of beer use very little hops in the process compared to a lot of the european imports. There was a Sam Adams commercial on TV that even talked about it. Budweiser uses around 2oz of hops per 45 gallons of beer, whereas Sam Adams uses about 16oz of hops per 45 gallons.

I searched 'American beer rice' and all results directly correlate the rice process with the lack of flavor (verifying what I said...)

"Beers such as those made by Anheuser-Busch and Coors Brewing Company followed a restricted pilsner style, with large-scale industrial processes and the use of low-cost ingredients like corn or ingredients such as rice that provided starch for alcohol production while contributing minimal flavor to the finished product. The dominance of the so-called "macrobrew" led to an international stereotype of "American beer" as poor in quality and flavor."--all of them say things like this.

I just looked up on budweiser's site as well. 80% rice then <20%= barley malt and hops in the process. I'm sure it varies somewhat among the other types though....

I had never done any research on it initially when I said that, but i've always been under the impression that the rice's involvement directly affected beer's lack of taste in the United States.

Yeah I've seen the commercials plenty of times. Hops are only a fraction of <20% of what budweiser even puts in the alcohol making process... so the commercial is slightly misleading if you don't know that. And I'm sure i'm just stating the obvious here, but being that it contradicted your analogy, Sam Adams is American!

I've been on the Bud plant tour here many times as you get 3 free beers at the end... (Merrimack NH)

While they never mentioned regular Budweiser being made with rice, they do mention their beers like Natural are. Eh... really means nothing to me.

If I want to drink for taste, I'll grab my fav ales. If my goal is to party, I'll buy my Budweiser. If my goal is to drink 30 beers, I'll buy my friend Natural.

HA! That's pretty funny, it figures they'd actually do some shady shit like that. Well, maybe when rice becomes way more expensive than barley, they'll start making beer the way it's SUPPOSED to be made.

Rice? wtf....I actually haven't had a Coors Lite in quite a while - but I used to. I'll have to check out their most recent product. I tend to go with Corona these days. There was also a Philippine beer called San Miguel. I think, that wasn't bad.
