Is there any reason why? Does it play badly in Q2? I always wanted to try a casual game of CTF, but usually I never see enough people for 3v3 or 4v4, on the CTF server.

The quake 2 CTF scene is quite active. There are even a few booming communities. Acme CTF and the Quake 2 Public CTF server are just 2 places that average 12 players at any one time. It's a COMPLETELY different experience from either DM or Dueling.

This crowd here just likes DM better

ACME looks like the place to play, as soon as I find out how come my pak is not clean enough to play over there.

For years I have wondered the same thing about the TS CTF server. Peewee is right - folks around here just seem to prefer DM. Playing CTF with a full server and evenly matched teams is the most fun I've ever had playing Q2. You definitely need to try it sometime.

The reason why CTF isn't popular around this place: Honestly, I think all of us Tastyspleeners suffer from ADD, we don't have attention spans long enough to concentrate on anything more than killing the living shit out of HEY LETS GO RIDE OUR BICYCLES EVERYONE!

some of my fondest memories of quake when I used to play on 56k before I even knew about TS are of CTF, mckinley's revival even more so. loved that stuff, havent really looked into it these days though because there isnt an active one at TS and here's home

beside q2ctf1-5 is where its at not all those custom maps/mods >;(

it tends to be hard enough just to get a 2v2 DM game going where all of the players know what they're supposed to be doing...

adding an objective for the team beyond staying alive and killing the other team tends to really cut into your odds of finding a good match.

ACME CTF @ www.acmectf.com is the most popular NA server. They even run small tourneys.

Anticheat is required and files are enforced so any custom models may need removing if you want to play there, or just post on their forums with whatever models you want to use and I'm sure they will get added after being checked out.
