3rd Grade Map Test

OK - I'm supposed to believe that a typical 3rd grader can finish this test in the alloted time. What you have to do is drag the State name onto the appropriate spot. It's a good geography test. I know my states fairly well and I've gotten to 41 states in around 5 tries before I ran out of time. There's no way that this is some kind of educational standard typical of children in the 3rd grade.
It's an SWF file which I usually run in Internet Explorer. Try it....

uhm I can't even place one state because i'm a limey but that looks ridiculous to expect a 3rd grader which im assuming and going to google in a moment is a primary school child to complete.

edit: rofl that IS young, who the fuck came up with that as an appropriate test for that age.

In the third grade, I and my other classmates were given a test on geography without any prior notice . The test was a map of the United States with dots where the capitols of each state would be and a list of the State Capitols' names. We had to fill in the name of each state in all caps, and the name of each capitol in lower case (1st letter uppercase, of course!). We were not given a list of States' names, instead, we were supposed to already know that. Each name was worth 1% of the test (50 states + 50 capitols). We had 30 minutes to complete the test, and I was the only student who aced the test.

i've never heard of a time limit that short but my son (3rd grade last year) could get all 50 states/capitols in his state/capitol test.

show me a map of the UK and ask me to point out all the shires and chesters and dons and fields and whatnot and i'd be stuck like a convertible in a muddy field.

The point was to finish it in the time provided. I can easily finish the test in another minute or so. And I'm Canadian. But I don't believe for a second that I could walk into any 3rd grade class in the US and most students would be able to do this in that  short a time. I doubt more than 5% could do it.

Anyway I did get all 48 in whatever the time span was.....and the game still said I lost.

I didn't have to take a test like that until High school... Looking back on that it might have been that we lived in the mountains and all we have a special people. I agree with you ReCycled, I couldn't even do it when I was in high school, then again I didn't really care at that time.

I agree. But this site has a ton of free games and this was a good basic geography test for any American. And they ruin it by insulting you with a lie if you don't complete it. Rather mean-spirited I think.

When my son was trying it he found some bugs in it that should be fixed:
*if you drag Kentucky to the wrong place it doesn't go back.
*It's near impossible to get smaller north-eastern states w/o a mistake at least once.  They're to close together & the arrow is relatively huge.
