A program that utilizes weapon favorites
« on: August 23, 2009, 12:52:25 PM »
There is another program that I want that I used a long time ago that made it so when you picked up an item it would automatically switch to your favorites in order that you made.  Anyone ever use this a long time ago as well?

I still do. It's just a script to go to your best weapon (if you have it) - from best to worst. There's no time in FFA to select a weapon by number. I can post it here but I\ve found it has not been consistent since the change from Win98 to WinXP. And lately, when  i invoke it,  it seems to execute the script twice. Might be the dual-core issue.

If you want it I can post the text here. Others have their own as well.

Yes please post it cause I can't stand trying to hit the numbers in order to switch weapons.

Modify the order of weapons placing your most preferred last.

Code: [Select]
bind q qw
alias qw "qw1;qw2"
alias qw1 "wait;use blaster;wait;use grenades;wait;use shotgun;wait;use super shotgun;wait;use grenade launcher;wait;use machinegun;"
alias qw2 "wait;use chaingun;wait;use rocket launcher;wait;use hyperblaster;wait;use railgun;wait;use bfg10k;"

Top players don't use this, in favor of moving directly to the most appropriate weapon depending upon circumstance.

AQ2 uses similar techniques to switch between primary and secondary weapons. Does this overcome the limitation of only switching between the last 2 in the list?

i.e. if you have a rocket, chaingun, and railgun and your bind is in that order, it should only switch between the chaingun and the railgun

I've seen more advanced setups with q being rocket or rail, e being chaingun or SSG, and f being other weapons. I prefer to use E and R as invprev and invnext with Z and X being invuse and invdrop respectively. Very flexible as it works for any mod and allows for powerups as well.

Modify the order of weapons placing your most preferred last.

Code: [Select]
bind q qw
alias qw "qw1;qw2"
alias qw1 "wait;use blaster;wait;use grenades;wait;use shotgun;wait;use super shotgun;wait;use grenade launcher;wait;use machinegun;"
alias qw2 "wait;use chaingun;wait;use rocket launcher;wait;use hyperblaster;wait;use railgun;wait;use bfg10k;"

Top players don't use this, in favor of moving directly to the most appropriate weapon depending upon circumstance.

That's more-or-less what I have. Just to expand on Defiant's response, you need to copy the text into your autoexec.cfg file so it will be loaded when you start the game. I also make sure my config file has the trigger (bind q qw).

Depending on your style of play, I have my script bound to MOUSE2 so it's always handy. The other 2 buttons are devoted to FIRE and JUMP. This way I can change weapons while in the heat of fighting or jumping.

Here's the problems I've found with my script:

1) It won't recognize more than 4 weapons (use function) per line of script. So I have 3 lines of aliases to cover all the weapons which slows down the selection of "best" weapon as Quake runs through all the conditions.

2) My best 2 weapons are - first rocket launcher, second chaingun. My script will first change to the RL and then one second later change to chaingun. It's like it's executing twice. You look pretty stupid setting up for a rocket jump, and wind up firing a chaingun at the ground.

3) If I'm out of ammo, and pick up a new weapon, Quake won't give me the weapon. It wants me to use the 'best weapon' script to invoke the weapon.

That's why I didn't post it. It worked flawlessly with Win98 and then started to give me glitches with WinXP.

I dont use my numbers for anything else, so I left binds there in case I play some weird weapons mod, otherwise all my weapon switchin is done on the mouse.

// ---use specific item binds---

alias blast "use blaster"
alias shot "use shotgun"
alias ssg "use super shotgun"
alias mac "use machinegun"
alias chain "use chaingun"
alias nadel "use grenade launcher"
alias rl "use rocket launcher"
alias hyper "use hyperblaster"
alias rg "use railgun"
alias bfg "use bfg10k"
alias nade "use grenades"

bind 0 "bfg"
bind 1 "blast"
bind 2 "shot"
bind 3 "ssg"
bind 4 "mac"
bind 5 "chain"
bind 6 "nadel"
bind 7 "rl"
bind 8 "hyper"
bind 9 "rg"
bind g "nade"

bind b "use rebreather; use environment suit"
bind i "use invulnerability"
bind q "use quad damage"
bind p "use power shield; use power screen"

// ---favorite weapon binds on mouse---

alias bulletweps "mac; hyper; chain"

bind MOUSE2 "bulletweps"
bind MOUSE3 "shot; ssg"
bind MWHEELDOWN "rg"
bind MWHEELUP "bfg; nadel; rl"

with this setup, if I rightclick, I get the best spray and pray weapon that I have, mousewheelup gets me the best HE weapon I have, pushing the mousewheel grabs the best shotgun, and rolling the mousewheel down gets me my mainstay, the railgun.
