HOWTO: Creating map .override files

Just a quick post to get this started (not sure if there's already a post on this subject)

To obtain the entity list from a map, use entdump:

  http://r-1.ch/entdump.exe  (Source: http://r-1.ch/entdump.c )

Like:

  entdump somemap.bsp > somemap.ent

Then edit the .ent file in a text editor (such as notepad.exe)

Then paste the text of the modified .ent file into:

  http://r-1.ch/r1q2gen.php

...and also enter the name of the 'real' map, like:
 
  maps/somemap.bsp


Then click the Generate .override file button, and save the .override file to your hard drive, in your quake2/baseq2/maps folder.  (Or quake2/xatrix/maps or wherever you want the override to be.)

Thanks quadz! Now I can try to make the override for "Crater Kitchen". BSP file is ven_dm4.

ven_dm4.override <- bad file name.

should be ven_dm4.bsp.override

Is this the same as the RCON method I use?

load the map up you want to change and enter rcon password then:

rcon dumpents mapname  ; where mapname can be anything

Which creates an ent file in the Maps folder which I can edit then save as mapname.ent, matching the original mapname, then dropping the ent file into the Mapsent folder.

Then just restart map on server and it is done.

Is this the same?
