I play some on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sometimes during the week, but hardly ever for any duration. If I see someone playing the tastypleen xatrix I usually jump in...

Absolutely NOT betting on any of the playoff games, probably not even the Superbowl. Like I said, all these teams are playing way too unpredictable and inconsistent to comfortably wager anything on anyone. But I'll go ahead and toss out who I
would
bet on if I had the balls to risk it.
AFC
Baltimore Ravens VS Indianapolis Colts:
Colts - $400
New York Jets VS San Diego Chargers:
Chargers - $300
NFC
Arizona Cardinals VS New Orleans Saints:
Saints - $100
Dallas Cowboys VS Minnesota Vikings:
Vikings - $100

As ridiculous as it sounds, it
could
happen. I remember watching Matt Stafford when he played for Georgia, he's not a bad quarterback at all, just needs a little more experience and some better talent surrounding him. I was a little sad to see him go to a team like Detroit, but hopefully he can end up being the first piece of the puzzle that makes Detroit competitive again.

Arizona 14; N.O. 45!!! The NFC Championship game is in New Orleans. Could this be real?

Meh, could've been up 500 bucks today, which would've still put me ahead if my picks tomorrow both lose. I was pretty confident that New Orleans would beat Arizona, but I wasn't too sure that they'd be able to do it by such a large margin. Reggie Bush had a great day. Turns out that it was in the game plan to back off for their last 3 games of the season and get keep everyone healthy for the playoffs. Deuce McAllister was out today, and I'm not sure how serious Jeremy Shockey's knee/leg injury is, but hopefully he'll be back in time for next weeks NFC championship game. They don't seem to use the backup tight end as a selectable receiver as much as Shockey.
I was a little surprised that the Colts didn't score more than they did. Baltimores defense is pretty good and they are the ones that make a lot of the offensive plays for them or at least set the offense up with good field position to make their job easier. Not trying to say that the Ravens offense is shit, but they really don't compare to the offense of Indianapolis. Joe Flacco just isn't as experienced as Manning at quickly scanning his 3 or 4 receivers and picking one with pinpoint accuracy. If you watch how Peyton Manning drops back, he tends to have a pre-set rhythm of receivers running different timed routes he will scan. If none of them are open enough after he looks them over once, he'll start shuffling on his toes in the pocket getting ready to move up once the tackles shove the defensive linemen out and around to the back. Usually that's all the time he needs to find at least one man in a position where he can drill the ball to where only his receiver can make a play on it. Whereas Flacco kinda panics and tries to force it where it probably shouldn't go. Like I said, I was a little surprised that the Colts walked away with only 20 points. The way they've been playing all year, an opponent would have to walk away with 7 points after
at least
every 2 out of 3 drives in order to keep the game close enough to win. Jacksonville did it and only lost because they ran out of time to keep moving the ball. San Diego is every bit as good as Jacksonville and a little more, so who knows, if San Diego beats New York tomorrow, then maybe Peyton Manning will be stuck with just the one SuperBowl ring he's already got.

Whoa. I gotta hand it to the Jets. They hung in there, played tough all game long, and finally caught San Diego with their pants down. They did a great job pass rushing AND simultaneously staying on their designated receivers downfield like stink on shit.
As for Dallas and Minnesota, I kinda figured that game might've been a little closer than it ended up being. I'm glad Dallas lost though, it gave the world a chance to REALLY see what a complete dickhole Keith Brooking can be. That's one of the reasons I wasn't too terribly upset that Atlanta decided to trade him. He's a great linebacker, but he has a tendency to be a dickhead when shit doesn't go his way. Fuck that numbnuts. If Dallas was up by 25 points, they sure as hell wouldn't have stopped playing. The game is 60 minutes long and played by "professional" athletes. If you don't want to play anymore, go sit your pouty little ass on the bench or get the fuck out of the NFL. I got a feeling the Dallas GM is going to give Mr. Brooking an incentive to keep his fat stupid mouth shut from now on or else he'll be invited to leave.

Jets vs Colts - Usually, strong defense wins against strong offense and I'm tempted to predict the Jets in an upset. But I just can't see Manning being unable to help get the winning score with the game on the line. Colts 23; Jets 17.
Saints vs Vikings - Anybody that watches NFL football will tell you the key to this game is how well the N.O. offensive line protects Brees from the impressive Minnesota defensive line rush. That will be a huge factor. But I think the "experts" are selling the N.O. defense short when they have Greer and Porter healthy at cornerback. It's a whole different defensive team with them in the game. My prediction (or maybe wishful thinking?): Saints 35; Vikings 20.

Eh, I promised myself I wasn't going to be stupid with large chunks of money for the rest of the playoffs, but you only live once. Last week, 3 of my 4 picks were winners, kinda wish I had gone ahead and put the money on the games. And like I said, you only live once. If I lose it all, it won't hurt me too much.
New York Jets VS. Indianapolis Colts - Colts $400
Minnesota Vikings VS. New Orleans Saints - Saints $300
I really have no comments on these games. They seem to be complete toss-ups to me. Most people are predicting that Indianapolis will be able to take the Jets, but over the last several games they've shown an amazing ability to outlast their opponents in slug fests like a heavyweight boxer that wins it in the very last round. I almost hope that New York pulls it off even though I'm trying to play it safe and bet with the odds. Manning's already got a fuckin' ring AND 50,000 career passing yards, give someone else a chance.
I'm picking the Saints based on the last weeks performance. Favre and Brees are pretty evenly skilled passers. According to the stats, New Orleans has the better run game this year. Minnesota's Adrian Peterson hasn't been able to locate open lanes like he used to and is only averaging about 3 yards a carry, whereas Reggie Bush... well YOU saw what the hell he did last week.

Jets beat the Colts late in the year, but they were trailing in the game when the Colts pulled their starters in the 3rd quarter. They did take out the Chargers, but Nate Kaeding, usually a rock solid kicker, missed three damn field goals in that game. I'll admit anything can happen, but based on the previous events I'd take the Colts in this one. I got no money on this so it wouldn't bother me to see the Jets win this one though. Has Joe Namath predicted a win yet?Â
The Saints have two things the Cowboys don't have. The ability to stretch the field with numerous deep threats and a coaching staff that won't stupidly insist on countlessly running Marion Barber when they have Felix Jones! If the o-line can give Brees just a little bit of protection, he ought to be able to connect on some deep strikes, something Dallas hasn't been able to do since T.O. was released. Minnesota never had to worry about the deep catch against Dallas, but it can kill them against New Orleans. I'm hopin so, anyway. Should really be a good game!

WOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!
Gawd, I love getting rich, don't you? Yes,
of course
you love me getting rich!
From what I've seen Indianapolis do all year compared to what New York has done all year, I figured the Colts had a better chance of beating the Jets than the Saints would have beating the Vikings, which is why I put 100 bucks more on that game. If the Saints would've lost, at least I'd still come out winning something. I haven't bet on a ton of games this year, a few NFL games, a few college bowl games plus the Thanksgiving Georgia and Georgia Tech rivalry when I lost 50 bucks. Overall, I've won a lot more than I've lost. I have decent luck gambling, even in poker, unfortunately I sometimes choose not to walk away when I should. So I'm gonna learn from past mistakes and NOT put any money on the SuperBowl. It might make it a little less exciting to watch, but I don't care, I'm just glad the Saints FINALLY made it to the big one. And of course I'm glad to make 700 bucks for nothing but sitting on my fat ass in a bar and watching TV.
From what I've seen the past two weeks, the Saints really look like they're struggling. I know, I know, according to the score of the divisional matchup against Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals, they kicked their asses. I think they just got pretty lucky on a few runs, not to mention the fact that Arizona really wasn't one of the strongest contenders out of many of the teams that made it to the playoffs. I really have doubts that the Saints will be able to keep up with Indianapolis in two weeks at the SuperBowl. If I
were
going to put money on the game, I'd probably have to put it on the Colts even though I hope they get totally stomped. Yeah, I love money, and making some easy money betting on a sporting event is great, but I'd still feel horrible after rooting for the Saints all year and then betting against them in SuperBowl... and winning. I'd probably feel even WORSE if they
did
manage to beat Peyton Manning and the Colts, hehe.
I really think the Vikings got screwed out of that game, even though I'm glad they did. Yeah, about 5 boneheaded turnovers, but some of the calls from the officials were pretty shitty, especially right there in overtime. Unless I'm mistaken, New Orleans only made ONE FUCKING COMPLETE PASS on that drive, the rest of the yardage came from skimpy little 2 or 3 yard runs and pass interference penalties. That last penalty was totally bullshit. The defender was not near the receiver, I never saw him touch the guy, he looked like he was doing a backwards dive/fall on purpose hoping his arms would miraculously grow another 5 feet in length. The ball was not catchable, probably should not have been ruled a penalty. The saints were playing pretty dirty too, hitting the living shit out of Brett Favre on purpose. We switched over to NFL network after the game to watch the post-game podium interview, and Favre looked like he had a few gashes in his forehead. Commentators mentioned that he got hit a lot and the markings on his face were evidence of it, but I have my suspicions that what ACTUALLY happened was that he went back to the locker room and started slamming his head into the lockers or the wall in frustration, lol.
Too bad, Favre. Maybe... next year? Still isn't clear whether or not he'll be back next year. I hope so.

Naaa. I don't think the players care either. For them, the only payoff was a family vacation in Hawaii. They won't even get that this year. Maybe they should put up a big pot of money - winner take all. That might make it worth watching.
