Newegg gambling?
« on: August 12, 2009, 08:44:43 AM »
So I've always trusted and suggested that people purchase computer/technical items from Newegg.com.

Until recently, I've never had an issue with a part, whether I created the issue myself or it came broken, returning items to Newegg I've learned is a complete pain in the ass.

What's the gamble? Shipping and handling fees + restocking fees... if you purchase a $50 item and it comes broken, you may as well just toss it in the garbage then then return it to Newegg. Getting DOA items from this company is a complete fuck in the ass.

Then it's... what do you get back? I get my item back, open it up and it looks like somebody wiped their ass with the manual and fed it to their dog. Obviously what I bought, was a refurbish. Now mind you, this isn't a swap, I went on the site and ordered a whole new product. I got in return, a used product.

So what else sucks about Newegg? How about how fascist they are. You are unable to complain/suggest anything to them, there is no contact for that. If you attempt to leave a criticism in a product review towards Newegg, they will remove it. It actually says in the review rules, DO NOT CRITICIZE NEWEGG SERVICE. What a bunch of bullshit.

Fuck Newegg. You've lost me.

I always knew that their return policies were shit, but last time I used them the negative feedback was pretty useful.

I.E. you could read the top 5 good and bad feedbacks to get a better picture of what you were buying. If that no longer exists, then you're right to flame about it. That is probably a sign of the end of their life as a company.

And yes buying from NewEgg is always a gamble. Make sure your product has a warranty with the manufacturer and never go through newegg for replacements.

I've had to return a few things, but never because I'd gotten bunk hardware.

The majority of the time, it was something that didn't fit in the application I was going to use it for. In one case, I returned a hugely expensive all-in-one printer/scanner/copier/fax that looked just like the one I wanted but wasn't the network model.
That one was a little tricky to turn back in because it had been more than a month already, but for the most part, I just got an RMA over the net and sent the stuff back for credit or a replacement.

I've had to call them and bitch a couple times, but thats par for the course when you're purchasing shit remotely.

I tend to not buy anything that has more than 3 customer reviews that state they got a DOA product, so that might limit my exposure to the shitty end of the system. I also do not buy refurbished products and I will not accept them in place of a "new" one.

As for the feedback, yeah, they're worthless as tits on a board.
There really is no right way to tell them that a description on a product is wrong, or that you aren't happy with something, and even if you do find a way to get the message across, they dont fix it.

many weeks ago I'd noticed The Fallout "trilogy" pack of games on there, and when I checked their info on it, it stated that it was a Bethesda Softworks product (it says Interplay right on the front of the box in their own picture of it)

I left a review of the games included in it and stated repeatedly that it was not in fact a trilogy pack (it doesnt include fallout 3, which is what the xbox kiddies would buy it for) and it was not a bethesda product since every game in it was made by interplay and sold by interplay.

They still haven't had a real person look over that "review" otherwise it should have been fixed by now, and there was no way to tell them that their shit was wrong without reviewing the product itself.

I've noticed a considerable amount of reviews on newegg lately regarding incorrectly labeling items on their website. For example stating a product contains an hdmi out port when in reality it doesn't, etc. It's been awhile since I've ordered anything from them. All my experiences have been for the most part pleasant. Tigerdirect has been emailing the hell out of me lately with some new deals, they seem to be improving.

Hah Newegg emailed me based on the review I posted for a product I had trouble with. They were like "You sound frustrated with our service, we'll wave the restocking fee and supply a shipping label." oh but they couldn't help but get some type of dominance in, "Oh and please review our 'Review Guidelines' before making your next product review." Hah, fuck you newegg.
