Yes, that's right! Q3 kicks Q2's ass!
I didn't play Q3 for about half a year but the other day I decided to give it a go again. I did some demos against nightmare bots and now I see how Q3 ownz Q2! Hell, Q2 does have some nice physics here and there but is too slow-paced for my liking! Q3's weapons are nice n powerful so that combat isn't long and boring. And no - powerful weapons are not n00bish - if all the weapons are quite powerful it changes the game dynamics around completely.

Anyhow, here are my Q3 demos (you'll need the latest Q3 patch to view em, and extract them to your baseq3 dir). If anyone else has Quake 3 demos or stories to share, please do

man, got to get back to playing q3!

heres a story on the q3 clan i was formerly in:

last and first clan i was in was the shenlong clan (now dubbed as shenron) and also meaning "shadow Dragons". we were dbzgt and anime fans, (etc) who also played q3, yeah, some of them were freaking nerds at that shit, but they were pretty cool tho! we didnt have much issues (read on to learn the issues we had). we mostly played q3 rail servers (and some servers with hooks) and a dbz bid for power q3 mod back then. i went by the name of Li shenlong in the clan (Now dubbed to omega/syn shenrons)

the clan first started in 2001 and ended like the beginning of this year! and i joined the clan in 2003. most of them were quitting, and some of them got bored with dbz and some wanted to join other clans, and some werent active enough to be in the clan.

there was like seven shens left (counting me), and they also finally got me into playing q2 (started playing in 2004, but used my shen name this year). the seven of us started dubbing our shen names to how the american dubbers dubbed our names, so i had to convert LI to Omega or syn (ive choosen omega),
and we even had dubbed "shenlong" to "shenron".

the only reason you'd say q3 is faster then q2 is if you can't strafe jump. q2 is faster and you can double-jump. Overall the gameplay completly destroys q3.

Q3:
Faster weapon changes - Q2's weapon changing is real pissy, as much as you try to change it, it still sucks.
Faster movement - also, continuous jumping can accelerate your movement more than in Q2. Q3 doesn't have all the physics Q2 has, but hell, who cares when you can have more control over your movement??
Better weaponary - the weapons don't take shit - you never end up having stupid long-ass combat like in Q2 - blasters are a load of shit. This doesn't make it bad - if most weapons are better than in Q2, then that adds different combat stretegy. It isn't n00by at all - infact, the machinegun is seen as being really week to any n00b - better players see how good it can be if used correctly.

Give me examples of how Q2 is faster. The way I see it, Q2 is slowed down loads by slow, shitty weapons -
blaster - arggg what crap is that?!! Even Q3's non-firing gauntlet is better (and more fun!)
shotgun - it's firing rate is fine, but if ya got good health and armor, you aint gettin killed by no sg
super shotgun - a tad too slow, but nothing really too bad about it. Prefer Q3's SG though
machinegun - you dont get it when you spawn, which means that you're using the blaster when respawning - you're a sitting duck. The weapon is good though.
chaingun - it's too good - even better than the chaingun in Q3 Team Arena
grenade launcher - ok, this is better than in Quake 3, definitly
rocket launcher - same in both games
hyper blaster - it's Q3's plasmagun without splash damage. Hit or miss - I personally think that the plasmagun fits better in Q3's gameplay than the hyperblaster does in Q2's.
railgun - identical
bfg10k - slow as fuck in Q2, if you wanna use it anyhow. Q3's is much faster, not really more cheap though, so I'd still go Q3 coz I hate slow shit.

I enjoyed the hell out'a Q3. Playing and skinning.
But my connection plays better for Q2.
Q2's rail is more fun.
I don't like the lightning gun in Q3. To hard for me to use effectively.

And now there is currently a better community for Q2 than Q3.

Yeah it's loada fun. Skinning kicks ass with the full color skins with multi-layered alpha layers you can use.
I agree with the connection thing - plus my Q3 keeps givin me shit online, asking for my CD-Key, even tho it's legit, and when it S'sTFU my connection is damn bad.
Lightning Gun kicks ass - run right up to your enemy and hold down fire while keeping your crosshair on him. Works damn well!

Ummm, community wise, the Q3 community have sadly gone over to that bullshit UT2004 and left I much better game. The Q3 community WAS much bigger than the Q2 community but unfortunatly most Q3 players didn't stay with it!

Since i downloaded the latest patch i cant get on ANYWHERE now.... cos of the CD key thing... admittedly its a copy but all was fine till then.. I think quake II will ALWAYS be the best of them no matter how technically advanced q4 is. I also agree with Kobraklaws that it is ID's best multiplayer effort and the maps are much more amazing..

vq2 or osp has nothing on q2.. but q3 cpma is the shit. warsow owns them all though

quake3's gameplay is alot like quake1's
its way to fast for me :p

quake2 beats the hell out of all newer games imo
i agree with kobra that it was ids best effort at multiplayer. which pisses me off that there going for a quake3-like gamespaly style in quake4
