Modified Player file

I get this message occasionally on Vanilla, for at least 2 years now. I don't use this player model (crakhor) - I always use Male/Cajin. Secondly I have never modified the crakhor model/weapons files and have had them in my quake directory for at least 10 years. Does anyone know why I get this message?

I'm pretty sure that crakhor false positives is a known issue and is a major reason why that form of anticheat is not enfored, only displayed.

Individual servers can set up their anticheat hash lists to kick clients with specific known files loaded. Known aimbots and wallhacks running while AC is loaded is obviously going to get you kicked, as well as spiked player, grenade, and perhaps rocket models. Modified and loud sounds will merely be flagged, but I don't think the servers are instructed to kick players for those files.

The kick policy is server operator choice.

The flagging of files means your files don't match the MD5 hashes for files of the same name as based on the lists maintained as legal on the server you are playing on. If you never use the model and you don't care to view it yourself if anyone else on the server uses it, simply delete the model (or move it out of the Q2 tree) and you will be "clean" again.

Actually, you don't "come clean" even if you don't have the crakhor model/skins/anything else installed. I don't even have the crakhor folder on my computer, and I still get:

Check baseq2/players as well as the modfolder/players trees. It might still find it somewhere in the q2 file system but I am not sure if anticheat looks in ALL the quake2/* tree or just the active mod and baseq2 portions.

If you deleted the offending folders, make sure the next connection and download of that skin is from the server it was flagged on, else you will download that skin again from wherever you got it and possibly have it flagged again. Novelty skins are fun but after a while they become a PITA. In many cases I have ended up turning off skin downloads and deleting a bunch of skins and going with grunts except for a few favorite skins.

So here's another question around the Crakhor model. What if this model has actually BEEN modified? Maybe somehow it takes less damage than normal, or somehow the weapons cause more damage than normal, maybe it's target area changes when jumping etc etc.. I'm only thinking this because one high-ping player always uses this model and has occasionally been accused of cheating (at 180 plus ping). I'm just sayin...

None of that is possible.

All of what you suggested is server side, not client side; with the exception of the skin.  The server would need to have that file also for it to work though, which i find highly unlikely.

A person cannot create a skin with a smaller hitbox on it, and then connect to the server using that skin and have the server recognize that skin and react to that skin unless the server has the skin also.

You will get that error if you deleted the Crakhor model from the players directory. In fact most have deleted that model as the sounds are downright annoying. It seems as though anticheat looks for that model as a base one and then flags it if it cannot find it.

I've had the same problem here on tastyspleen for a while and I finally figured it out!

My crakhor\tris.md2 was flagged by AC because I had installed Rocket Arena 2!
When you install it, it copies the crakhor model (tris.md2 and weapon.md2) along with RA2 related skins (blue, red, aqua, etc.) to the baseq2 folder.

I assume you either have RA2 installed or got that player model off a server that had RA2 installed.

The thing is, if you compare the player model files from that RA2 install to the files on Tastyspleen's server (found here, they have the exact same size, but crc checks will reveal that they're not the same. 

To solve that "false positive" anticheat message, download the problematic files here: http://tastyspleen.net/~quake2/baseq2/players/crakhor/ (you'll problably need tris.md2 & weapon.md2 - I just downloaded the whole folder with DownThemAll! for Firefox) and paste/overwrite them into your \Quake2\baseq2\players\crakhor\ folder.

Easy as pie, problem solved, zero failed files!
