qoole mapping questions
«
on:
June 23, 2009, 02:04:03 PM »
ive been mapping for years and i have been trying to get the full version of qoole... all i can find is the shareware.
i cant even find it to purchase its like it dropped off the face of the internet.
so my question is does anyone have any info on the full version?
and can anyone get qoole to work with windows vista?
i make some pretty weird maps and custom textures, ill post some fairly soon, i just got a laptop with windows xp so i think
i should be able to start mapping again. i hate vista hardly anything old is compatable.
anyway, thanks.
i also think this board should have a forum for custom skin, model, and map designers... maybe it does and i missed it..

Hmm, so none of the downloads on the qoole site is a full version? -
http://www.volved.com/qsr/
All I ever used was v2.50 which had a brushlimit of 300 or something. I never used it again...

also qoole has a bug that could make your map leak due to rounding errors.

I never got Qoole 99 to work. I use Qoole 2.50. Yeah the 300=-brush limit is a bitch. Someone on here has a reg code for it.
That rounding error really sucks too - I've had a few maps fall victim to it. The workaround is to NEVER use the rotate function on anything critical.
I still use Qoole though because I just don't want to bother learning something else. Too bad you can't export Solidworks files to the BSP or MAP format.
Love the "V" pic! LOL!
Look forward to seeing your mappage! I'm working on a really weird one too, which I'll be posting as soon as we got a little more playtesting. My last effort, Fours2d.bsp (on Mutant), was something that was almost epic, but fell victim to a few flaws that people hated. This new one is slightly more conventional, and I mean 'slightly'...

I thought the qoole download from that site didn't need a reg code, or had one included so you could use it?
But I agree qoole IS quite nice. IMHO more editors should be like it!

I replied via PM with the qoole 2.5 info for you
I've never had a problem with running qoole2.5 on any windows platform. I doubt that you'll have an issues running it on Vista.
Qoole 99 is a powerful program but it's got some bugs, and the controls suck. Qoole 2.5 has a rounding error but as far as controls go, it is probably the single best quake 2 mapping program. The concepts of a 360 degree facemove and vertex move are kind of ignored by Quark and Radient.
Generally, any more, here's my mapping process. I put together a map in qoole 2.5 and do all of the fine details there (back up often because unfortunately qoole can crash and lose files if it hits a "signal error"). I save a .qle and load it in qoole99 in order to export it as a .map. Sometimes I do the texturing in either qoole 2.5 or qoole 99. Once I have the .map I place all the spawns and do the lighting in Quark.
For quite a few maps that I've done as of late, I've used just Quark, but that's only because they did not have any fine details. Quark really sucks for making things like statues, rocks, and terrain. This is due to it's "assuming" how you want to move vertexes and edges. The "Assuming" that quark does will generally cause your vertexes to misalign to your grid. Trying to put your vertex back onto the grid will generally cause another vertex to misalign. You will do this to every vertex on your brush until you give up and just do it in qoole.

I've run Qoole under Vista as well. Shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for helping a fellow mapper, PeeWee! That program should be public domain by now
I just finished carving out my caverns for my entry for the mapping contest!
