Playing Against Bots

How do you guys feel about playing against bots in deathmatch like the eraser etc? I think they're ok but it's not really the same as playing against human players. It's just not as satisfying, somehow, which is weird because it's really just the same gameplay. Does anyone else feel the same?

I wonder if it might be possible to make playing against bots a bit more entertaining by having some kind of a levels system or something.

Gladiator bots kept me sane when I had no internet.

The game play is definitely NOT the same..  bots don't straf jump,  double jump, or wait in any kind of a strategic manner.

They are incredibly useful in learning the pickup and spawn sounds on a map though,  as they pickup just about everything.
I got alot of dm1 sounds down pat from playing them for a 3 month spat of no internet.

on a side note, early in my q2 days I connected to a server that had about 5 or 6 Gladiator bots running.
after playing a few maps with them I asked what clan GB was, and if they would like to have some matches sometime

They can definitely force you to up your aiming skills if you play against them enough.

occasionally I'll run a server on my local machine with either erasers or my very tweaked gladiator bots and set up an instagib configuration.

They're wicked with a railgun and you have to learn to use cover constantly and make every shot count when you're in the open.

Maybe some bots could run around in the less populated servers to encourage people to play in them ,like Pigmy. And as humans show up have them displaced.

Sometimes when I am really bored I fire up the Erasers and toss in a random bunch,all made from the various models I have.,like guest stars in my own personal hell! That could be cool too for those empty servers
