Filefront is closing. And although I am sure that this is not the only location for some of these files, I would still hate to see them just disappear. I've got server space to host these and will gladly upload them (as I'm sure TS will be generous to host any files they do not already have). What we need now are local copies of these files. Unfortunately we only have 4 days.

I think that the main focus will probably be the maps, mods, and models/skins folders. I'm sure that most of these files are being hosted on filefront redundantly, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'll be trying to get some local copies as well and sort them out later. (i.e. why back up aerowalk when it's hosted 100000000 other places and already hosted on TS)

Yup, happy to host as much quake related stuff as we can. (We could spare 20 GB maybe, so we're not exactly going to be mirroring their "over 1.5 million files totaling 48+ TB of space" however.

Yeah I want to clarify that I'm talking specifically about quake 2 related files. It would be very cool to see other people try and get space for q1, q3, and q4 files. I would certainly be willing to host some of them as well if people get copies of them. My efforts, however, are going to be focused on quake 2.

I also want to voice that being so close to april fools, I'm not entirely convinced that this is not a joke. But I'm willing to have egg on my face in this instance by backing them up anyway. Better safe than sorry.

I've got all of the maps, videos, and models from File Front. I did leave certain maps that I knew had mirrors elsewhere, like areoq2 (my example above hehe)

I'm going to take a "break" for a little while. I'll resume getting all of the mods and utilities next.

I've got everything downloaded. I'll start sorting and uploading later today. Possibly tomorrow. Most of it already exists in the TS file structure, so adding it to my server would be pointless. I'll find out specifically which ones really are unique.

The only things I didn't download are the countless TLTF remakes and the hundreds to thousands of individual .wal files located here.

Lots of maps collected over the years. Have 'site ripped' (where did I get that term from?) a lot of the big file depositories.
Fileplanet, Clanwos, Webman and Twist,q2players etc.

My q2 maps folder is over 3gb and 3200 maps. Almost all dm type What a mess tho. Matching up the textures, env etc for each map is tedious to say the least.

1800 properly zipped maps.

Countless map paks and exe's with tons of customs and novelty maps.

Lots of free time too. hehe

A big thanks to all past and present map makers and of course the folks at TS!

Keeping q2 somewhat fresh with all of the variety of customs. It is very much appreciated.

There's a moddb folder on filefront hosting at least some of the ModDB downloads. I'll try to hit this today.

If it is an april fools joke then myself and PQ took the brunt of it, but since I've been dl-ing so much I've come to really enjoy the service. I honestly hope that it;s a joke.

I don't mind having downloaded so much because I've found some very cool mods and SP mission packs that I've never taken a look at before. There are quite a few that aren't even on tastyspleen. For example Dawn of Darkness (roarke) is an unfinished commercial first person RPG/adventure game. Really really really cool. (I've known about it for a while, but plum forgot)

Word on the forums is that File front has been bought out from Ziff-Davis.

The facts that do currently stand are that Ziff-Davis filed chapter 11 in March 2008. Ziff-Davis released a statement march 5th 2008 promising business as usual. The admins are claiming that this was not a joke, and it was all just terrible timing. Also they don't know why the forums and website are still available and will know further information tomorrow.

If it is a joke then everyone will be mad and FF will take a hit in users.

If it's not, then there's no guarantee how long the company will last.. and FF aught to take a hit in users.
