There have never been official TS rules that people are informed of in an official capacity.

Well then, make it so. Create and publish those TS rules.

Just like financial institutions, signs when you enter a restaurant or a bar or a library, or rules posted about a public park.  Signs about rules are posted at hospitals.   It's the right thing to do.

There's a reason that's never been done. It's incredibly difficult to make a detailed set of rules that encompasses everything without becoming highly restrictive. I don't think there is anyone in this community who wants that.  The Draconian Forum Posting Rules address that fact and put guidelines / rules much more eloquently than I could.

Hard and fast rules with set consequences make it harder for us to make judgement calls considering context and more than just a single moment in time.  I don't think anyone here wants *more* rules and *more* restrictions.  I don't see any way to make the rules clearer without doing that.

Unfortunately this is very hard to define in writing what's OK and what's not. 

A list of rules would take a lot of the nuance out of what's acceptable.  We're all grownups here and we clearly all love this community if we're still playing after 25 years.  I think we can trust each other to try and follow the spirit of those rules Quadz created. If there's a problem an admin will reach out and address it.

Uh, yeah.  The official set of published rules were checked and there is no sign of rule #3.  Or 1, 2, 4, up to 20.  Are we seeing the problem here?

3. How free is free speech here?  Within the limits described above, we generally encourage and foster freedom of speech on the forums.  However we do have a history of disallowing racist speech or hate speech.  Unfortunately this is very hard to define in writing what's OK and what's not.  If someone is showing genuine humor, or is being light and ironic, it might be fine.  If someone is acting like an a$$hole, probably not.

p.s. - I can't help but wonder why "asshole" has dollar signs in it.

No sign of that on the front page at all. There is a a menu with menu items that link to downloads, user pages, player stats, servers status, some .tv thing that nobody ever talks about, and forums.  Hell, people I have talked to on the servers don't even know forums exist for this community. Every time I mention it, they are shocked.

Ahhhh... users of this web site and the TS quake2 servers had no idea.   No sign of it on the entry link other than due to recent activity.  You have to dig around to find this. I guess I took ten+ years of digging to find it, lol.

You only speak for yourself. It's a bit foolish to think that you speak for "users of this web site and the TS quake2 servers."

This thread has been around for a long time now and it has 85,060 Views. Somehow you were never one of them

It's more of a forum guideline, as the title of this thread indicates. It was written for the forum, posted on the forum, for the forum users to see. These principals can be applied in other areas, but this thread was meant for the forum.

Adding a list of rules to the landing page isn't really how we want to operate. We want to be welcoming to players, not throw rules in their face the first time they visit our site.

I've spent 12  to 20 hours per week on USA Q2 servers, FFA and TDM style, in the last ten years, at all hours of the day.  (also a fair amount of non-usa servers).   Doing a lot of gabbing. Also on the phone and in text messages.  I think I have a pretty good feel for what people have been thinking and saying and feeling.
