Well cool that Jager honored my request for him to change his avatar, which had offended my Christian sensibilities! (a bit cheesy there and untrue but hopefully an a propos way to wish that avatar R.I.P.

Hehe, true. I don't see any BIG changes there, even though some folks believe that the SS has marched in and escorted them against their will into a police state ghetto miles away.

I'm not so sure disallowing folks from replying to posted material in the reform section will work out smoothly. Before, if an individual moved your shit there, you could at least respond to the action somehow RIGHT THERE after foreseeing that any further replies on-topic or off-topic in that same thread would probably be moved by the same thread originator out of spite. Basically, I think this will cause some people to continue posting the same crap in the same thread until administrative action is taken to prevent it. Is there a real reason I've overlooked for not allowing responses in that section any longer?

Hmmm... good point.

When I changed the permissions I did for a moment contemplate allowing people to reply to their own posts there. (Am reconsidering that now.)

It wasn't anything too major. It was partly a conceptual rationalization, in that that board is where deleted posts go, the forums recycle bin. Having it read-only seemed to make sense by analogy with the way Windows doesn't allow files in its recycle bin to be opened or edited.

It was also because it's more difficult for me to observe what's being posted in there. I read the forums via the 'recent posts' link using the Admin account, and it shows me posts from all boards, except the recycle bin (Reform School). I have on a couple admittedly rare occasions received a complaint from someone who objected to being trash talked on a Reform School thread, and I had had no idea these threads were even taking place as they don't show up on my screen normally.

I could also solve the latter by hacking the forums code to force posts from that board to show up in the recent posts view on the Admin account.

Anyway - that was about all there was to it. But I think you have a point that making it read-only may in effect close off what previously functioned as a relief valve in some instances.

For the moment, I've changed it so people can reply to their own deleted posts in that board, but not others.

none of this makes any difference to me, you could have made these changes and I wouldn't have noticed for months.. and I wouldn't have complained. I don't even use the recent posts button, nor do I even know where it is. Which is also why i didn't even notice this thread until last night

Uh, is it me or are these rules not "new" in any way? These are the guidelines that we've been operating under for the past ice age, and all the first post did was clarify these things... I'm not quite sure why many people seem to be seeing these rules as anything new or extreme - a lot of it is just basic common sense and decency. Hell, the very title of "Draconian Iron-Fisted Rules" is tongue-in-cheek.
Realize that quadz pays upwards of 700 dollars *per month*, out of his own pocket, to keep these servers running. With that much investment, one would assume it be common courtesy to go along with whatever guidelines he chooses to set down. It's his party, he'll cry if he wants to, and I for one am very thankful that he hasn't done any crying yet.

Realize that this thread has fuckall to do with the servers, Jehar, and that most of us were smart enough to catch the humor in the thread title.

To me, it doesn't seem like anyone who posted here is seeing these new forum posting rules as some huge changes to the existing rules or something extreme, but rather that some people have serious concerns about the way that changes to everyone's posting abilities were suddenly and irrevocably implemented because of what was essentially a special case involving 2 members and a general buzz over time from people saying that the forums "Were out of hand" even though nobody but Xtyfe had the nuts to publicly express that sentiment.

We have also mentioned that now that they're written down they seem very vague and they may give people the impression that the letter of the law isn't very specific and that there are areas wide open to interpretation by both parties. On that note, we also pointed out some simple but obvious ways that the rules (as written) could be sidestepped by users and ways that they could be misused by admins to do things other than they were intended to do. Focalor and Peewee expressed concerns about certain aspects of the changes that did not seem directly related to the cause of the legislation's passage (trolling) or which seemed excessive and problematic and they recieved answers to mitigate those concerns.

BTW, parties with only one person are notorious for being very boring. It's in all of our best interests to keep as many "partygoers" happy as is possible and thus keep the party rockin. Our gracious host seems to know this well.
You could probably assist him in his cause more effectively by donating to the beer fund as opposed to making vague assertions that we're all ungrateful bastards for expecting the party to continue as it was.

On a lighter note, putting the new rules through wordle, seems to have yielded an interesting image with a startling message.

I don't understand why so many people are complaining about quadz's "IRON-FISTED" forum posting rules.

quadz is the one who is paying for tastyspleen, out of his own pocket, so is it unfair that he gets to say what language people are allowed to use in the forum? Additionally, I have noticed that people commonly use the f-word and don't get their posts deleted, so why are you complaining?

Come on dudes, quadz even provides a board that people can post their shit talk in!
