windows vista + quake2

i just got vista and quake2 is really choppy now,same cfg and all from xp but in xp it runs extreamly smooth even with 34% packet loss,its just choppy as fuck on vista, how to fix?
sempron 1.6 processor single core so its notthing to do with dual core

I had an issue too at first. My FPS were registering the same as before but it looked horrible (choppy). Couple people in my clan showed me how to get my FPS to like 999 which fixed the issue. Thing is all of a sudden when I join, I have a 60 fps cap so I haven't been able to play. I haven't changed my cfg forever... not sure what happened.
