The Sun is at the center of the solar system
Does the bible say the opposite?  ???

No, it doesn't - at least not in any of the extant (meaning existing) - which seems to be a critera of science :) ) original language manuscripts we have.

In the aramic/chaldean/hebrew of the OT the word for sun (NOT sun images - that's an entirely different word some translaters sub for sun) is shemesh (she'-mesh). In the koine greek of the NT extant manuscripts we have the word is helios (hay' - lee - os) (look familiar?). The closest references to the solar system in the bible (again, the original languages) is found in  biblical accounts of  creation sucn as the one given in Genesis 1:14-18.

Some of you who had to learn latin in school correct me if I'm wrong but the best I can remember the word solar is a combination of the latin (not greek) words SOL (latin for sun) and AR (latin for pertaining to or of the nature of) thus you have the meaning of solar as pertaining to the sun. ergo (what the heck does that word mean, anyway? :)solar system would be a system pertaining to the sun. The definition of a system pertaining to the sun would seem to me in my opinion (which doesn't mean much) by default to have the sun as the central object - whether pertaining to our "solar system" , sirius (which incidently is the brightest star in the night sky seen from earth), Alpha Centauri which scientists tell us is a good match (being a G2 type as is our own sun) and the most likely of the stars in the milky way (yum carmel) to have terrestrial conditions or any other star in the galaxy/universe.

Sorry if this is way more info than you wanted :) but it's a fascinating subject. :)

More excellent reading on euphemisms which will probably have most saying "gee, that's interesting - I didn't know that!" can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euphemism

Heheh, one of my favorite movies, Repo Man http://online.tvguide.com/Movies/database/ShowMovie.asp?MI=17860, contains a lot of swearing.  For the TV version, instead of bleeping it or doing some lame P.C. overdub, they redid the dialog with some funny sound-alikes.  Such as.... Flip you, melonfarmer!!!
:)
-p

Yeah, kinda reminds me of the Sat nights (1-4am) watching dubbed kung-fu movies...
What was that movie Jackie Chan was in with (I can't remember his name but he's really good) and the dude was saying something like "I see your mouth moving but the words aren't makin sense" or something like that. It was a hilarious movie....

Hmmm... sorry to mispeak on the helio-vs-terra centric thing - and also the heart being where the soul resides (I think that's what was believed).

I don't know whether or not either of these things are literally stated in the Bible, I only know that Christians believed them for over a millennia before science forced them to reevaluate their beliefs.

I really need to read the Old Testament.  I've read the New Testament and I'm realizing how limiting that is on understanding where a lot of the fundamental Christian beliefs come from - and probably some of my own.

im not going to lecture or correct anything on satanism as everbody seems to hate it so much, but i lived with 2 satanists for several years, and they remind me more of catholics than christians do... and adam, if that dumbass stabbed someone for saying they dont understand satanism, he sounds like a trendy little cocksucker who has no fucking idea either way

Hey Bleach... I don't think anyone said anything about hating them... just don't understand their doctrine.  They... want to go to Hell right?

None taken bro.  I do believe words can have a large amount of influence (and I'd be wasting my time as a pastor if I didin't :) )  so I guess that would be power. I know words can be used to build us up or tear us down - used as weapons or a medicine.  I seems to me though  the power of words isn't so much in the words themselves as the belief the hearer has in  the words used. Is that what you mean by faith being there for it to work?

I also believe the human mind/pysche has an enormous amount of untapped potential - too many unexplained instances of people doing what is humanly impossible and it can have an enormous impact on our lives.

I have known people who just gave up - decided there wasn't any use in  "continuing to fight" -  In one case I know of this brought about a perfectly healthy person who spent the next 15 years in a wheel chair and by the time they died they really *were* in bad shape.  It can work the other way around as well -  I've already lived 35 years longer than more than one doctor told me I would :)  heck, by their way of thinking, I should have died in '69 and for the longest time they kept telling me "any time now" :)  I've since outlived a bunch of them :)

I also know a guy who is so convinced of his "faith" he stands outside in a storm "rebuking" it to go away - which of course it does...........eventually - me, I figure that's why God gave us sense enough to know how to build storm cellars :) not to mention some healthy warnings in scripture about the results of tempting and continuing to tempt God.

The most amazing thing to me is it seems to not  make any diffrence whether the words or the ideas expressed are "true" or not - it's the belief the hearer has in the words that people's actions are based on - history and recent world events show us just how much pain and suffering can come from that one. (can I get a witness?)

Geeze... someone's gotta help me get back to playin quake. This philosifying ( ;) )  is getting to be a habit.....
