WHY DON'T WE JUST SETTLE IT?

I don't know ever since Slikkster's thread about who’s THE BEST NINE(I think my 9 is the best) my wheels have been turning.  I think Slikkster got it mostly right but there are a few that I’m just not really sure of.  I think that since we aren't totally sure maybe we should settle it in a laboratory setting via your server maybe on Saturday and Sunday afternoons or some time that can be generally agreeable. Maybe, come up with some type of loose statistics and or ranking.   I would think that with the towering egos among us that a ruler to measure it also is not totally out of order.  I admit this is me saying this which will probably preclude this from ever happening, but maybe an admin can be glad they thought of it.  Regardless, we could try doing different things like maybe announcing the maps to be the battlegrounds or not, and recording statistics and just have a hodgepodge for awhile until a generally accepted way of interpretation can be accepted.  I wonder are there server programs that record Halo like statistics of deaths? Or does a server demo record the same demo u can watch in spectator? Maybe, we could leave these up during the week. Not only will this allow players not to fool themselves, but also let the masters truly shine with the most punishing defeats they can muster(Another point to the masters, Aren't u tired of playing hacks(wall) like Slikkster and I all the time? Would the Best of the Best like to fight each other instead of pickings among the meek? )  Of Course, not every tourney would be a must for it would not be the quantity of your play, but the quality. So if you’re not so hot maybe u should sit it out.  I don’t know. I'm just throwing things out there. I realize there may be some crowding to the server during these times so maybe we could be grouped into categories and have everyone who wants to play be assigned one(No spectating allowed and maybe no chat allowed to keep distractions and lag to a minimum).  Maybe winners for lower groups (top 2) can get a shot at the group above and the lowest 2 be demoted(to the group below).  I've noticed that the afternoons on the weekends aren’t totally jam packed and based on server data we could find suitable slots. Well I just reviewed them myself, and it looks like 6am is the least busy. Maybe if not too many of u rave about it here we could try it around this time and see if it catches on maybe 10ish? I only suggest this because I really think the level of play has gone to another level on this server since I left in December.  I think the level of play now, from more regular players, supports the want and need for hardcore competition not lies and innuendo.  I understand that there are no admins on at these times.  I nominate my self to watch over these proceedings if no one else will, and it is allowed.  I’m just kidding? i dont think i would have time to play tourney or whatever too busy with work/stuff.  i actually lost myself in whatever you typed. i think the moon was flowing or something...humm. are you saying your wallhacking? thats not good!
last person that wall hacked got himself a one way ticket to being banned.

i play mostly late afternoons for a few maps before i go to bed. work comes early.
I was under the assumption that the server usually has an admin on it mostly at all times. they probably just dont say anything?

heheh so now I'm a "hack".  Cool.  I guess that means just some run-of-the-mill quake shmoe with no real skills.  

That's fine, Cold.  That just makes me the underdog, so next time I kick your ass, you'll be giving me even more props.  

I'm far from the "elite" on Xquake.  Apple takes that prize, and I haven't seen anyone who can compete.  On regular days without Apple, JQuestt has been ringing up frags at an extraodinary pace.  Habib's been rockin lately, as has Arther, when I see him.  

My true test of whether my own skills have really declined or become stationary is when I reinstall Windows 98 as a Quake2 platform.  I've been using XP for a couple of years now, and it never has been as good as 98 for gaming.  But, we shall see, in due time.  Until them, my hat is tipped to the reigning kings mentioned above!

Slik i just threw u in there and I think I'm aprroaching your level now. Regardless, yes we know apple is the best and the tournament is really not for him. In all probability, he would only have to make one apperance to be the lead in the statistics (Not that that's necessary really he's above the server).  This would be for the rest of us.  I think Apple is content with his 1 minute 30s and 2 minute 50s.  But, are you better than Habib, Slikkster or is he on the upswing in his daily progression and your on the down by establishing a tournament setting (fine if you persist on calling him good what about Habib and Coz.  That's a good one.)  I think this can be determined (I really dont hope u think he is that much better than u) and like i said i dont think that even a fourth of them would be necessary to determine skill.  I put that in there Slikkster because it was preemptive to your negative comment.  Come on maybe its a little work but i dont think it would really be too much.  Maybe other than the initial thinking it out maybe it would require 15 minutes a week to set up.  At first you could make the groupings randomn and let them sort themselves out.  You could make the game a rediculous number of frags.  I understand Apple's disinterest I knew he wouldn't care but Slikkster I don't undestand.  My point was not to determine the best nine but the best 60.  I'll admit it im not up to full speed all the way (my stamina is still down), and I would like to know where I lie in the huge number of possible contestants.  The time to do it can be determined and then it could possibly save a person's time because they would only have to play the 100 frag tournament and do whatever they got to do in life while those looking to improve can stay and play during non-tourney times. Well the fact that there have been 27 views and 2 responses pretty much has made this a dead thread, but it was a good idea wasted.  It could be made to work but there are obvious apprehensions about time and the fact that i came up with it.

So Cold, you are saying throw 10 people on the server and let them battle it out?  And you would call this a tourney, or am I missing it here?  A FFA tourney, new one on me for sure.  First it would be a little hard to have a fair tourney with some pinging 20 and some 120, you would have to find servers that would allow both players to have close pings, say 30 or so difference.  And maybe a no cheat server as well.  And pings aside, xquake has been the pl king as of late, hard to have a good game there at all anymore.

Questt I dont understand your post pls clarify.  Also Husker Im talking about 4 or 5 groupings of 16 not just one group of 10. I think everyone should be tested.  Tests make u smarter and perform better if u realy strain yourself once a week it can do noting but good for u.  About the pings,  Husker no one can determine your distance from the server and you play this server with your current ping anyway.  Your style is changed by your ping and as ahard as it is some people still kick ass with a 120 ping eg Warkilla and maxping does pretty good on 250 dialup.  Its just being able to try something new play people closer to u once in a while instead of just the people that play at the times u play.
