I just tried 0 for a few minutes,    kinda disgusting.
Might need to tweak some other settings to have it behave well,  if naym uses it it must be OK somehow right??

But I'm with adren,  1 feels Soooo much nicer.

I find that I can jump certain crates at cl_async 0 at 120 cl_maxfps but for me it works with gl_swapinterval

So if jumping large crates depend on cl_async ahd fps, what does gl_swapinterval do?

My current settings:

bind k "cl_async 1;gl_swapinterval 1"
bind l "cl_async 0;gl_swapinterval 0"

gl_swapinterval syncs your frame rate with your monitor's refresh rate. For all purposes in-game, it enables and disables vsync. I have this set at 0 always, so I can adjust my fps to 120 even though my monitor's refresh rate is set at 75hz. I think the 75 -> 120hz transition is decent in regard to transitioning/frame tearing/etc... but, nothing beats a CRT. naymlis who posted above plays on a laptop on occasion, and I think he sets his refresh rate to 75hz and plays with 120 fps as I do.

cl_async is a command in r1q2 that syncs cl_maxfps and r_maxfps if I remember correctly, I always have this set to 0 as well. similar to adren who posted above as well, I used to use async 1. Now both of us, to my knowledge, use async 0.

certain combinations of these settings and values will feel "best" to you, but normally that's completely biased relative to what you're used to playing with. I'd suggest to anyone to use the settings i just described, and attempt to get use to that(opposed to changing it to your initial liking).

oh and.. you can jump a 64 unit crate even with fps in the high 60's(every so many tries).. I remember testing it with someone.

Well, even you get more that 100 fps with cl_async 1 + r_maxfps "somenumber" in ur own server (or offline plays), u can't enter in any server in tastyspleen cuz it's setting to any player never can't play with more that 100fps, then is useless u set ur cfg to have 500 fps in ur game, I just use cl_asyn 0 + cl_maxfps 100 (the more equilibrated).

But a have a question: I know that to climb big craters (64 units) u need at last 91 fps (cl_async 1), or 100 fps without cl_async to increase ur jumps. But FUCKING WHY u needs increase ur fps to get jump easy theses big craters??? What fps does really, in q2 physics? Someone explain it for me, plz ?

Yes, I've read the n00k1e's article (very cool article), but I want to say is what is the physical effect of highs fps in my player model? Why I can climb 64 unit craters in negative areas with high fps and NOT with low fps?
Oh, and FUCKING WHY i can sleep in rail's window in q2ctf1 with 20 fps and NOT with higher 20 fps???  :eyecrazy:

It's been a long time since i read n00kies post on this, but I think it all has to do with your position on the map, which you can view with the cmd viewpos and the fact that the gravitational pull is affected by your position in the map..

Funny how i come back after such a long time only to find this thread alive.
