lol. anyway jesse i'm still using aprq2, but r1 and regular q2 also have no particles. I'll figure it out soon enough

True that. Peak around in your radeon settings.. I know nothing about it, but that's my best guess that it's perhaps something in there but I wouldn't know what.. what I meant by gfx settings, not in q2.

I think it has to be something R1GL/OpenGL related so (since r1q2 doesn't allow software mode) start a normal install of quake2.exe and switch to software mode to see if those nice pixelated particles show up at all. While faster, some people seem to have issues with R1GL so if you haven't already switch back to stock GL.

the config looks fine at first glance..

you might try upping the particle size ones to 8 or 16 and see if you see anything..
perhaps they're just very small at 1 pixel on that large res:)

Apparently I'm 100% up to date. Guess i'll re-install? This is definitely not a pak file issue.

try installing q2 to a clean folder, then unzipping this over the top of it:

I know that _should_ work as is, so if it doesn't we can narrow it down to not q2 config related.

Very strange, hmm perhaps you could try it with an autoexec.cfg:

set cl_particles 1 //for r1q2+Q2
set gl_particle 0 //aprq2
set gl_picmap 0 //you have your gl_picmip all the way up to 5 (wtf)
set gl_particle_min_size "2"
set gl_particle_max_size "32"
set gl_particle_size "32"

IMO the problem with r1q2starters and such is what works well with one q2 client won't work or can cause problems with others.
That's why i suggested to fall back on stock Q2 and GL to test, as it doesn't recognize a lot of those cvars and is "safer" when troubleshooting.

Acer, that gl_picmip was just a quick experiment. I use 0 now, although I always used to use 7 haha (i've never played q2 on a decent setup in my life)

ex: yeah man, gonna try to get my settings right and aim back fucking around on DM and then play TDM
