The US is one of the most liberal countries in relation to censoring content. You'll notice there's lots & lots of trials, press, media, etc. but no banning outright. Not like other countries. In fact, I think the US is the only major modern country to NOT have a govt. ban on any media. At worst it's been a ban by businesses.

Until ... SHOCK! HORROR! WORLDWIDE MORAL OUTRAGE !!! Janet Jackson gets one of her knockers out in the superbowl !!!

The US reaction to that incident was, shall we say, 'interesting', considering their very liberal attitudes.  I found it a very entertaining piece of cultural comedy.
