can you plug directly into a cablemodem or some other type of device and bypass your router?

That doesn't show anything bad.  It send a bunch of packets and got all responses it should have but 1, with good latency.

when you go to google I take it, it's now slow?

Not that it should matter, but you may want to restart that device by unplugging its power and battery.

what do you get when you go to some speedtest sites?  What kind of connection is this, what do they say they are provding you bandwidth wise?

I can get onto google at near normal speed, its just a page with text. anything with pictures though? g-images for example, or a picture rich web page, or god help me flash/java stuff, its horrendous.

when I go to speedtest sites as I posted previously my bloody upload is higher than my download :S 110 kbps download vs 330kbps upload. though ofc it does not download even near 110kbps, more like a tenth of that.

connection is an 8mb BT ADSL connection, I do not recall perfectly about bandwidth but it USED to be around 30gb, but I think they actually lifted the restrictions a while back. besides I don't torrent or anything excessively so I dont think a cap would be the problem.

The DSL stuff is very dependent on the quality of the cabling, and how long of a distance the phone switch.  You are probably using the existing telephone infrastructure, and it's old.  Maybe they can do something with the cabling.

Here's another strange/problem with the whole situation, when I do speed tests, my upload speed is higher than my download speed lol. For example. Download Speed: 120kbps, Upload Speed: 335kbps. (note: 120kbps is a fucking dream compared to what downloading files ACTUALLY is, try 10kbps.)

I do believe they did a line test when I rang them but they kind of do those every damn time you ring so perhaps it wasn't a full test/just a very basic one.

That is EXACTLY what happened when my modem went bust. On speed tests, my upload speed was 340kbps and my download speed was 115kbps. I was actually getting 10-20kbps download speed. Eventually, my ISP had to replace my router, and they gave me all that s*** that they are giving you. They didn't want to do it: blamed it on viruses, the download sites, my firewall, etc. It probably took 4 weeks before they eventually replaced the router.

hmm interesting, but why would it continue to do so even after I switched with an old modem to test? :S in fairness though I think perhaps that modem was bust idk.

does the speed suck everywhere (problems with local line), or just to some sites (network congestion and problems on certain backbones)?

In any event that is your ISP's responsibility.
