Quadz, I'm actually looking to add some announcer sounds to Q2W.  If you want to combine efforts for actually mastering the sound samples, I'm game.  Coding changes to the game module to support this would be another opportunity to share, as well.

Would it play a sound that only that player can hear or the whole server?  Maybe a stupid question, but I must ask.  Last thing I would want to hear is a bunch of random sounds and songs from random players.

thats kinda what I was thinking... imagine all of the bullshit that we hear about people spamming in the jump server and multiply it by about 100.. That's how annoying it would be for me to be waiting to hear the mega sound and having it drowned out by someone's custom sound file that's saying "cuntfuck!" loudly in my ear..


If you didn't have the .pak file, it wouldn't be a problem though..
(as long as they only use custom sounds and not the path for some of those that came with q2...)


imagine someone using the path to the BFG blast sound effect in your pak0.pak..
you'd be looking around trying to figure out where the hell the person was who just shot at you, and how they got a BFG on q2dm7..

I think you all veered off the main focus of this.

First of all, I doubt highly there'd be custom wav files that say cuntface midgame. 

Secondly, I believe what was orginally discussed was changing the end map sounds to a specific song clip, so instead of hearing xian1.wav you'll hear a clip from say quadz favourite song Wannabe by the Spice Girls for example. 

What then would happen is:

- someone would cut a clip of the song that's about the same length as the xian1.wav file
- encode it into the proper sound format Q2 handles
- rename it to xian1.wav
- add the new xian1.wav to a pak file ( ie: pak9.pak )

Once all of that is complete, upload the pak file for users to download and now when you win the map, or are just there it'll play the new Spice Girls clip quadz has created for everyone. 

This scenerio so far would only work in the tourney mod, however I'm sure someone might be able to code it in to play in the regular DM servers.
