Yeah the hud does get smaller as the resolution gets bigger.
You want the hud bigger? Whip out your Visual C++, download the Q2 source code and get programming to get bigger hud you lazy shit!
Well, you can manually resize all the hud graphics in the pak file but then its gonna fuck up, coz there will be numbers, icons 'n shit overlapping each other and going out of the display area, therefore, if you know C++ you can make a mod with the hud item spacing made bigger, so you can easily fit bigger hud pics, and therfore have a bigger hud, but then you won't be able to use that on tastyspleen
I know the above is a fucking mission and is more trouble than anything else, that's why I just use 800x600 resolution - coz the hud ain't too small then and you get good quality picture.
Maybe somebody else has another solution, but I doubt it though.

If youre using the standard exe (quake2.exe) there is no easy way that I know of to change the scale of your hud. However, if you happen to be using either nocheat.exe or q2advance.exe you're up for a suprise:
gl_scale
That's a neat command that will make the hud larger if you set in any number higher than 1. It will make your crosshair/consoletext/hud and textmessages in game bigger, and should solve any problem you have with text being too small too read.
Oh, and it only works with nocheat.exe and q2advance.exe that I know of, so if you're not using any of those I'm not sure what to do

Ah, yeah, shouldn't be too hard, and maybe he see the use for it as well. Thought it was nice when I played on higher res with my previous graphic card, but now I got to play in 800x600 to get decent fps in the first place. So it doesn't matter too me
