I have a 20 second timer,  use it occasionally. 

But when on the TDM servers that don't allow it,  I have an easy enough time doing it in my head.

With practice you can simply "know" in your head when it is 20 seconds down to the second.

ive usually always timed by feel i started quake in cpma which actually doesnt show the seconds on your clock in 1v1 when i was trying to learn timing, it shows something like 7:XX lol and so i just got a really solid feel for measuring time in 5 second intervals and learning to time by relation

in ffa timing by relation doesnt work so well because you dont have weapons and stuff to time with, but say i pick up RL on ztn2dm3, grab YA, then go over and grab RA, i know that it took me about 5 seconds from when i grabbed RL to get to RA, and so i know when the next RA grabs up (which its pretty easy to feel out 20 seconds) 5 seconds later RL should spawn, and YA should already be up before i grab RA its just a bunch of that going through my head along with other decisions of course when i duel

item timers would just be convenient for those days when im stressed out and screwing up with my perception of time... there is some days when i literally show up 5 seconds early to every single item
