So what are my in-game settings?

r_overbrightbits 1.9

vid_gamma 0.675
r_hwgamma 1

Mind you, these screenshots were taken using my Quake 2 Engine, MyQ2 -- if you're using a vanilla 3.20 / 3.21 EXE, then you might not have "r_overbrightbits" or "r_hwgamma." Some, or all, of the following engines should have these or their equivalents:

NoCheat,
Quake2maX,
BeefQuake,
LiteGL,
Q2CP[/list:u]

And I'd say to not even bother with the MyQ2 v0.01 beta, unless you just want to play around with it; the final v0.01 will be oh-so-much better (as is the current build I'm playing around with).

Looks like you guys from quakesrc still exist. Its been a while since i visited those boards.
I have an engine of my own, for brightness however, my secret is the RF_FULLBRIGHT flag on all entities so that things like players, weapons, items ect. are always drawn in full lighting no matter how dark the map is. Even if some guy runs into pitch dark shadows, he still appears as being totally bright. Some might think its a cheat but really theres no difference in if i had the gl_modulate turned up as high as it goes. The advantage being that I can at least still use a low lighting level and the maps look good while at the same time I can see everything.

Not to thread crap, but what am I looking at in those screenshots that's so different than what I can get on a regular Q2 build?  I guess I'd have to find the exact room/map and compare.  My gl_modulate is set pretty high, so I don't have to worry about people hiding in shadows.

my pc can handle ALL those new opengl engines on ultra high w/o lag and the graphics are sooo good on a geforce or radeon u can get big advantage it even has shaders O_O

That was my point, actually.  Those shots ARE dark.  And I can get a much brighter screen with simple normal 3.20 cvars.  I don't know how others play, but anyone who plays where people can hide in the shadows is missing out on simple settings to brighten the game.

Yep. My problem is though I keep forgetting what those settings are ... Oh well, that's what happens when you get as young as ART.... j/k ART,,, no! no! not the RAIL!!!
