@IOU- gl_picmip is the key ingredient to making it "smoother" like his screenshot. I agree, that is too smooth for my tastes as well. I normally use a gl_picmip of 2 or 3, depending on stuff that affects my fps like the amount of people / particles / the size of the map. The higher the picmip, the better your fps, in general. gl_picmip 7(depicted in alpha's screenshot) is the highest unless you are using a client that alters the values for it.
