Wow - I Just played those two maps with the new substitution -  GREAT.

So much more fun, especially base2.  The back rail gave a lot better map balance and reduced the "frontside" bias that always seems to happen on that map.

The spawn  protection is good.  It looks a little like Wod (Weapons of Destruction)  now. I hate changes but that is a good one. This is a good server, lets keep it good. Leave the cheats at home, let's have a blast. :!:  :!:  :!:

Sorry gentlemen, we were trying out some remappings to give base1 and base3 a railgun.  We can't yet just add items out of the blue, we have to use a remapping of existing items. . . . . . The remappings are sticky, once set they stick until changed back or until the server reboots.  So we had changed them manually, and then forgot about it. . . . It was never intended that those remappings be permanent or for all maps.

leaving because a server doesnt have quad and invuln....imho those are the lamest things in the game, whoring with quad ssg or chain is effortless and boring, the same goes for invul, if u want to sqeeze the true skills from players these items are removed.  the addition of 2 hp stinks also as it completely changes the dynamic of the game.  the railgun loses is power (unless u up the damage) as u cant kill someone with one hit, and the need for extra health and armor is negated.  in essence everything changes with the addition of a few hp.

Man O Man -

5 seconds is way too long for spawn protection if the protection kills the user if he rails.  Two times in one match today I hit one of those yellow dudes after railing clear thru the first guy its like a double that never happened.

5 seconds or remove the punishment.  This is not cool.  Not cool at all.

I know we cant make this perfect, but having us run around in yellow for 5 secs with the kill penalty on makes the game cluttered with yellow lameness.

Ya the protection stays on too long, people get a weapon and are killing you while they are still glowing yellow and you can't kill them :cry:

yeah - but dont forget that if you rail them as they attack you while the spawn wears off (1 to 2 sec) then you will at least get to frag yourself.

I hope that this can get tuned up.  I actually used the spawn protect to get a few frags like that.  Try hand snapping a grenade.  I tried this on a guy, had full spawn protection, he railed me (tried) and died.  No frag for me.  Another time it worked.  The problem is with the wear off time being a sec or two after first attack.  Seems all wrong to me too.

On the up side, I do ABSOLUTELY love the rail availablilty - this adds a new dimension to the game.  I also see slightly more bfg availability which is a fun plus too.  Having weapons avaialble like that makes the game less of a "find the right weapon" and more of a frag feat.

Quad is missed - both using and fighting it.  I like the fact that it is a droppable object and it is like a prize you get for killing the quadder - you also are usually badly depleted so another guy gets it and so on.  These are a fun element of quake (no, quad is not evil - quad abuse is).

Is fun, but lets tune this spawn protect a bit. We can't know if it's good until we try.  It's not feeling like its good yet.  Weapons availability is great though.

Hi,

We're happy to try alternate tunings...

Currently (and always) the spawn protect time has been set to 20 server frames, which is 2.0 seconds.  Someone mentioned 5 seconds... but it's always been set to 2.0.

It appears the code to deprotect the player as soon as he shoots, is broken, however.  Will fix . . .

Any tuning ideas?  Sounds like you'd like to try less than 2.0 sec ??

Habib, i think thats a great idea.  Well, i dont know if this is what you are saying, but here is what i think would be great.

To have a Weapon Surprise/Potluck Lotto.
Where there is a %25 chance or greater that any builtin map would put random weapons in every weapon location.  Picking from the entire selection of weapons (not just the ones normally on the map).  And perhaps not reusing the same weapon in 2 spots, unless all the weapons (perhaps minus the single barrel shotgun) have been placed somewhere already.

Would give people incentive to visit every area of the map (promotes less camping) as well as changing the hotspots and traffic flow (which also would reduce camping).
Would give the maps an almost entirely different feel.  More so than Gravity Lotto even.
