Hi...!

Regarding vanilla...

One of the things that used to draw me to xquake back when there WERE other servers running the single player maps, was that xquake always ran the sp maps with WEAPONS STAY OFF.

Pretzel stopped playing here when the weapons stay was turned on.  She likes to drop weapons for people.

So I say if we're campaigning for vanilla, let's GO ALL THE WAY BACK people.  Or forward, or whatever it is.  

SINGLE PLAYER ONLY, WEAPONS STAY OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Ancient Head raises your max health by an entire 2 points.
(You don't automatically get more health, but if you do pick up another health pack, your health would max out at 102 instead of 100.)

Obviously just one Ancient Head doesn't do much.

Maps like 007_Facility that have whole rows of 'em to pick up, would give your maxhealth a respectable boost.

The spawn protect is great, I am glad that it's there.

I remember giving one of you guys the source to it (i think it was pretzel) but the way it is set up now is even better than the way i had it coded!  congrats to the coder, nice job.

As for quad, bfg, power shield... Hard to decide but i dont mind playing without them. Personally i hate quad and when i get it on this server, i try not to activate it (since there is an option). At least that way it prevents other from gettng it.  Power armour has always been an annoyance though, after railing some guy 5 times hes still not dead.

oh and Habib, to your comment about kansas.. something had to be done there because it was turning into nothing but a spawn camp haven. the regulars who enjoy playing there, honorably cant stand it. we dont want it turning into a mini-aftershock.

Yeah I recall it being a bit draconian a while back and I just got that "if you are just here to have a good time, then this is not the place for you" impression.  That must have been during the "DragNet".  Many people I know to be "honest" players got banned for spraypinting the walls or something.  It seemed out of control, including the 7 deadly sins listing.

I've also sadly seen the DM-II server depopulated to about 5 players from about 10 players average after things got "fixed-up" a bit, but that's another story.

Just so you know, I was not trying to malign their server, just pointing out my "icky" feelings when playing there.  Personally, I would not mind having the old aftershock back, although it did get crazy for a while.  The one thing you could always count on was a full house, mad house of frags, many of them dirty, ok most of them dirty, but it seemed like everyone had fun who frequented the place.  I nicknamed the place "CamperShock" and the name fit very very well.  That is where I learned to love vanilla DM.  Lots of fun.

XQuake had taken its place - I suck at 1vs1 and am bored by it.  But give habib a chance to practice "crowd control" and the best in me comes out.

I had no idea what the "ancient head" reference was for, so I googled it, and found that there were some interesting applications, particularly if you are on the receiving end.  There's a command called "give ancient head".   Now, on first blush, that sounds good if some lovely lass is offering such tidings.  But throw in the "ancient" modifier, and thoughts of some friend's granny cloud the mind.  Doh!

I played on aftershock for years, probibly more than you even, habib. It used to be pretty much the only place that i played for a while. With so many players though it didnt matter if you camped or not, you could always find some kind of way to win. We all had our "cheap frags" here and there but it didnt matter when 75% of the players were camping anyways.

when you have stuff like this going on in a server where the population is smaller its just not the same. its more of an annoyance. in xquake there seems to be more of a laid back welcoming setting - compared to the hostile environment that aftershock always was.

On the map with the first boss in the regular game the map with the bfg,rocket,rail romp up above the lasers and the rail below, I find that the spawn protection as someone goes for the rocket is too long.  They get that rocket everytime.  Also spawn camping there is very hard to do as someone will come up one of the elevators and rail u.  Also having that spawn get a rocket everytime makes it allot harder to stay alive not to mention the mental pathways i have to change to stop shooting at that gd rocket and killing myself as it calls me a spawn camper if anything please make that message player specific i hate being called a camper.

Sorry gentlemen, we were trying out some remappings to give base1 and base3 a railgun.  We can't yet just add items out of the blue, we have to use a remapping of existing items. . . . . . The remappings are sticky, once set they stick until changed back or until the server reboots.  So we had changed them manually, and then forgot about it. . . . It was never intended that those remappings be permanent or for all maps.

Thanks a million for the info.  There is nothing to be sorry for.  For the unofficial record, we are all just guests and whatever we get, we get, so I don't look at it like somebody is "taking away my rights" since none intrinsically exist as a just-playing-here and not-payin-for-the- server type of user.

I know that you admin(s) have yor hearts in the right place and this is an almost universal feeling amongst most players, so keep up the good work.  I know that whatever you decide on will be be great.

In the mean time, I will try no to become the most-complaining-est player n the block.

On the subject of the quad, it would be neat of the quad location could "float" so that is was more like a "bonus item" instead something that could be exploited to death.
