What's better is that the guy in charge (last name Tank, no joke) came into #qc to look for engine resources. He was going to use the Quake engine, but after finding that Q2 uses c++, something he was more comfortable with, he switched to that for the project.

Err, typo by me. To clarify - he was more comfortable getting Q2 and c to do what he needed, rather than learn qc.

Quake was written in quake c.
Quake 2 was written in Microsoft Visual C++ but didn't use many OOP features of the language. Microsoft C++ was chosen because it was needed to support the PC hardware platform. Quake 2 code is standard C but takes advantage of some of the features (like boolean types) that come with the C++ compilers.
Quake 3 was written in C++ and Quake 4 is an extensive rewrite of that, IIRC.
Hard to tell from the video whether it's a Quake 2 system or not but if they wanted standard C sources and custom maps it would be quake 2.
The little mouse looked bored, nobody to frag and only a small map to wander in, no weps and powerups to hoard while waiting for another player to connect.
