Quake / Re: Quadz, the Loquaciously Multiloquent Member
« on: July 12, 2021, 06:19:08 PM »
PM me if we can address something to his family to let them know how much Quadz supported everyone in the community.  \

Quadz was smart, selfless, dedicated, and wise.  Wise in how he built a community around the game with the right balance of order and open chaos (e.g. rivalries) to keep everyone coming back.  Cheers to Quadz!

I had the pleasure of sharing bleary eyed, low sleep Dennys with Quadz (and R1Q2 Rich) at Quakecon.  Thanks to Deathstalker for reaching out after a decade to let me know this sad news!

--

I'm confident Quadz would want Quake 2 to continue, so let's figure out a long term way to sustain it!

SOLVED

Yes it was outside my home network at hop 1 to my service provider.  Smooth as a fresh cut lawn now.

I like the quad - it focuses the match.

Trouble Shooting / Inconsistent Lag
« on: March 19, 2020, 10:06:40 PM »
I'm getting frequent and significant lag spikes.  Bad enough I sometimes only turn part way around or am rubber banded somewhere finding I didn't make a jump.

Tracert is ugly. netgraph looks like an uncut lawn.

I've shutdown every internet using device except the gaming machine.  I'm on an upgraded cable connection 100+mbs/20mbs in the southwest.  I don't think the problem is on my side.

I'm willing to help pay, maybe we could pool cash in some periodic manner.

Advice?  Options?
Appreciated,
[BTF]Defiant!

Nice
Bad time for my gaming PC to be down, I'll see if I can stop in via other means.

Science / Re: The AI Revolution: Superintelligence, Immortality, Extinction
« on: February 21, 2015, 04:27:38 PM »

Biological intelligence creating an independent intelligence which can self-improve seems inevitable.  For when, it is tough to estimate the order of complexity of the AGI or ASI problem.

As our intelligence improves our wisdom and willingness to change remains slow.  Expect human kind will splinter with some wanting to retain pure biology and others not.  Independent of that, an ASI would be "bored" with us overall -- similar to how we would be bored communicating with a tree.

One nit in the article.. the quote "There are no hard problems, only problems that are hard to a certain level of intelligence." is provably wrong.  There are problems which are uncountably infinite thus are literally unsolvable with infinite time and resources.  (See Touring Machine and Cantor's diagonalization argument).
