Tech Junkie Lounge / Silly me
« on: February 12, 2016, 06:17:56 PM »
My desktop can no longer access the Internet, or at least something is screwing with access.

I was surfing aimlessly, clicking on curious links, until I tried one of those that opens dozens of  browser windows like fireworks, until I Ctrl-Alt-Deleted to stop the flow and closed them all. But ever since, when I try opening a new browser  it says New Tab or Blank Page, even if I use bookmarks or copy n paste addresses into the search bar. Happily my ftp program can reach my website so I can still make updates, but neither Steam or refreshing Quake2 server lists can be accomplished. I tried using System Restore, but it tells me errors occured and nothing was changed even when i go back to the night before this happened. How can I un screw myself?

Tech Junkie Lounge / System Conga line?
« on: August 13, 2015, 05:37:57 AM »
Hiya...

Windows Vista had an update last night, and shits hitting the fan.

Restarted it as required, but in the middle of the restart a black screen oddly listed a bunch of components apparently being examined, then it re-restarted. Now my antivirus(TotalDefense Internet security suite) has reported  the Windows System folder trying to access a congaline of Ips over Port 27019 Protocol UDP(to list the one trying at the moment). NOT System32,but some empty folder called System I cannot do anything with,or modify permissions in order to try to do anything either. I'm not sure what I can do to stop it either...

Tech Junkie Lounge / Mystery in my Tray
« on: June 17, 2013, 07:06:42 AM »
I've been noticing some strange new icon that appears in my tray next to my clock. Its a rectangle made from powder blue lines with FFA within, and sometimes I see multiple instances of it. But when I try to hover over it with my mouse pointer, the tray automatically collapses and they disappear.I'd like to know if anyone has this happening to them and what it might be...

Skins, Models and Maps / Textures for Q2 maps
« on: January 08, 2013, 04:03:23 PM »
I was curious as to what size and type quake 2 textures were needed to be,possibly when using an advanced client like R1Q2. I did a bunch of textures for second life a few years ago and wondered what they'd look like ingame. Dunno nuthin' about making maps at all myself, but if one or two brave souls wants to see for me,then here they are on my website...

Tech Junkie Lounge / Making Money on the Web
« on: July 07, 2012, 06:14:20 AM »
A general question:

How does a website generate money from traffic? Say I put one up and generate periodic "content" for it,often enough to maintain a reason for people to visit, say,at least once a month. How does one turn traffic into cash? Please explain...thank you!

Tech Junkie Lounge / Help for a hardware noob
« on: October 02, 2011, 08:05:10 AM »
I recently ordered a hard drive from amazon for my girlfriend so she can use her old laptop to rip and store MP3s. I had an external HD enclosure from when I had gotten my new computer a few years ago, thinking I could use it with this, but the plugs aren't compatable...so what can I get to convert the new HD for the old enclosure...or should I just buckle down and get a compatable enclosure?

this is the HD

I am vacationing in Florida at the moment and I stayed at St Augustine, the oldest city in the country. Lots of history, lots of tragedy, and lots of paranormal activity. I took a tour of various hotspots in the area: an old hospital with an Indian burial ground on under it,a drug store ontop of the same mound, outside a graveyard filled with victims of the yellow fever outbreak in the 1600s and lastly the Ripley museum where some nasty double murder took place. We were given disposable cameras(I had a digital one so I saved mine) and an E meter that suposedly marked fluctuations in the electromagnetic spectrum near it.That required constant preasure on the On button,so I abandoned it although some folk mentioned activity. And we were told to go wild with the flash photos...

What all this was some orchestrated prank or special effect at first,a thrill ride of sorts of manufactured experiences...and I was WRONG. With my own camera I captured basic entities, but commonly documented Orbs, whitish discolored spheres floating freely about. And someother more indistict shapes as well...for now here is one picture I uploaded and the isolated bit of it so you can see for yourself...more to come...

And here is the Flickr page where others have uploaded their photos,so enjoy those and I'll do more of mine soon!
