Bot Drop / NoCheat 2.40 Beta 2« on: January 25, 2005, 04:02:42 AM »
I've only noticed it on this site. And I vist a few other forums sites as well.
Guess I'll load up IE and see how it looks. Looks ok on IE. The "Post Reply" button on the bottom of this thread is kinda corrupted for me. It's like half-compressed on the bottom of it. Oh well, will probably just deal with it other than try looking into it further =) Doesn't bother me all that much. 3
Bot Drop / NoCheat 2.40 Beta 2« on: January 24, 2005, 03:20:28 PM »
I use the 2.40 beta 2 version and have no problems at Xquake.
Also, what gives with all the visual corruption on many of the buttons on this site? Anybody else having that problem? I'm using Firefox. 4

Windows Key + M = Minimize all windows I find Winkey + D works better though. 5
Quake / Server framerate again« on: January 06, 2005, 12:36:54 AM »Quote from: Art Great footwork punk, congradulations! Good to see the server is playing like you want it, I just wish I could take advantage of it. My problem is that if I set my client cl_maxfps above 35fps, I experience just what you were talking about in your original post. I've yet to find a solution What video card, operating system, & connection are you running on Art? And are you using a CRT or LCD display? And many many thanks console (whichever version you are =P) for the change. Glad you're able to do small favors for members of the xquake community =) 6
Quake / Server framerate again« on: January 05, 2005, 01:39:35 AM »
Was just playing with the cl_drawrate command via nocheat.
It shows your upload/download kbyte?/sec rate. Switching from cl_maxfps 80 to cl_maxfps 90, on a server here in FL, running on a home cable connection, dedicated server (nothing too fancy afaik), seemed to increase my u/l speed by 0.1 k/sec. And my download raised maybe .05 to 0.1 k/sec. So assuming this feature of nocheat fairly accurately monitors incoming/outgoing data through Q2, & the tastyspleen connection & machine is superior to this guy I know's personal Q2 server (Clan [BOT] server). Then the server impact even if the max of 32 clients were connected to the "vanilla" server, and all normally ran @ 80fps and now were @ 90fps, the server would be taxed an additional 3.2k/sec download, and 1.6-3.2k upload. Of course, assuming these numbers are accurate, I'd presume that the tastyspleen server could tolerate this increase? And again, I'm not sure how often the server has that many people that want to run 90fps at the same time, so these figures are theoretical maximums. 7
Quake / Server framerate again« on: January 05, 2005, 01:27:50 AM »Quote from: console Thing is . . . we found out later that the _mega lag_ was apparently due to some SQL processes going crazy on the server machine. From my previous thread about this a while back. For Quake 2, and perhaps many other online games too, I believe that client-side framerate has a very minimal effect on the server. Lately I've been enjoying playing on the server again here and there, but the 80 fps really gets on my nerves, and I'm sure a handful of others as well (guess I'm just the one being most vocal about it). I've been told "60fps is fine, learn to adapt". Well, I've been playing with 90fps for a long time now, and I can definitely tell the difference between 60 & 90. As well as I believe Q2 (read this somewhere, can't confirm) defaults @ 90fps for a good reason. If 90fps has little to zero effect on server-side lag (was playing with it for hours the other night on the server, noticed no difference whatsoever), and you can manually cap your personal FPS @ 60 if you so wish, I don't see why this would be a problem that couldn't be addressed. Playing well to me is synonymous to having fun (though it can be fun to be a total goof sometimes too). And I feel that although this may seem like a minor change (which it is technically speaking), it makes a large impact with regards to in-game movement, and thus performance. Thanks =) 8
Quake / wall hack info« on: January 02, 2005, 12:24:33 AM »
I'm pretty certain that anything like you speak of is impossible to modify on the client side (your machine). It would have to be something done on the server. There is no way you can have a bot control the trajectory, speed, etc. of your grenades. Must have been something with the server. Some things just can't be hacked on the client side. (as far as I know)

Quake / Server framerate again« on: January 01, 2005, 02:48:38 AM »
Was great a while back when you switched it to 90fps. Now it's back to 80fps (the significance of that number in relation to gameplay still eludes me). Would be great to run it at 90fps, as I belive that's the default for quake 2, and things run much more smoothly. Not on a visual base, but on a gameplay base. @ 80fps you will randomly "stick" to the ground while bunny hopping, which you don't do at 90.

Quake / XQuake All-Stars« on: August 07, 2004, 01:17:04 AM »
I guess we need to pick 10, so here goes my opinion, in no particular order
1. Me, Punk>FAS> 2. Majikslug>FAS> 3. Applejacks 4. a damn fool (alien, etc.) 5. Chattanoo 6. [CLiK]Coz 7. the Crazed 8. I think JQuest, it's one or 2 of the Sir guys 9. Arthur Ritus 10. Wedge, if he's there often enough to count (have only really seen him on Mage anyway, but saw him mentioned here by others) and honorable mention - WallFly[BZZZ], I've yet to connect to the server without this guy there, and he's always spectating. I've yet to see him play, but with all that watching, I bet he's learned a thing or two about a thing or two! That's it off the top of my head. I'm sure there's others I totally forgot about, doesn't mean I'm not impressed by your skills. Just another persons opinion =) 11
Trouble Shooting / My computer doesn't like Quake 2« on: August 05, 2004, 01:47:51 PM »
I've had the same issue for as long as I can remember MS.
It's really random, but usually during fast action, usually when I'm running really fast racing to get to a certain area. The PC speaker will beep at me, and everything will pause for a brief second, and I mean very brief, like less than half a second probably. Still quite annoying though. I have a Athlon 1.33 Ghz Nforce2 Chipset Mobo 768MB DDR RAM - 512 in dual channel 64 MB Shared to the onboard GeForce4 MX440? video SB Live! Value card Win2k Pro 12
Quake / Server Map Rotation Poll - Please Vote« on: August 05, 2004, 09:50:18 AM »
I'll add a negative about the sequential style rotation. I like dm1-dm8. But with the way the rotation is now, I never seem to scan the server and find that it's early in the q2dm rotation. It's always at the end if at all. With the randomness of map finish times, and server population, even if you know the exact rotation setup as it is now (which I don't), you'd have little chance of knowing when to come back to the server to play the maps you like. As well as the server could be full and you'd still be SOL.
With the mixed rotation, you can join at any time of the day/night, and know you're just a map or 2 at the most away from a map you like. There's no need to keep a timer, or track of the rotation really, unless you only like a single map or two. I think the mixed rotation would be a great thing for the server, and it might even become more popular. But of course, the majority of the regulars on the server would need to see it this way to have any changes considered. 13
Quake / Server Map Rotation Poll - Please Vote« on: August 05, 2004, 01:08:56 AM »
Ok, I wanted to get you guys opinions on the style of map rotation you'd most prefer on Xquake.
#1 - On one hand we have it how it is now, where you have a good number of single player maps in succession. Followed by a series of custom maps, then a series of Q2DM1-DM8, etc. - Sequential Style Do you prefer the above rotation or would you prefer - #2 - A rotation of all the maps mixed together, where you wouldn't have too many maps of one style played in succession. You would have like q2dm1, then a custom map, then a single player map, then another dm2-8 map, or another custom etc. You wouldn't have a string of 10+ single player maps, or custom maps, or dm1-dm8 etc. - Mixed, Non-Sequential Style Personally I prefer the non-sequential rotation idea, the 2nd one listed. This way say if you don't like the singler player maps (such as myself), you wouldn't have to play more than one or two of them in a row before getting to a map you're more likely to enjoy. I think this would extend the average time people spend on the server, which may or may not be a good thing. Included is a Poll with 2 options, please chose which of the 2 rotation-styles you most prefer, or if you have another rotation idea, please include. 14

This is a hilarioius parody of a person we've all run into during our Quake 2 ventures, and in fact, this just may be you! (let's hope not =P)
Click Me! In this instance it's directed at Counter Strike though, but it's easy to see the parallels with Quake 2 =) |
