I'm not a fan of the BFG in general, but it's a cool easter egg and I'd like to see it stay. The difficulty in getting it out really limits the disruption, since it's very uncommon for someone to do that. And just firing it from back there is even less of a problem IMO. I know your server isn't a democracy, but that's my vote anyway  :evilking:

the water level you are referencing, is that the one thats just entirely under water and has staggered spawn pads and shit?

those are NOT in the rotation, and for good reason... i always get 800-1200 fph on those maps, and i don't like them either :/ the only good thing about them is if people keep respawning they end quicker, the problem is people do stop respawning so it will likely take the full 10 minutes

There's two that are entirely under water. The good one is ehwpit. It's blue, and there's at least 6 spawn pads and some columns. The one I'm talking about only has a couple spawn pads, is much higher with air available at the very top, and the walls are all gray, with no columns.

Back in the day, I played nothing but fast rockets/fast hook lithium. It was all about FPH, that's what's the most fun for me... could hit 1500-1800fph once an hour or so. Quite a few people could beat me 1v1, but when it came to FPH in a 6+ person game, I was at the very tippy top level; unlike now where it feels like I'm barely in the top 50%. So now the maps that let you recapture the feeling of incredible FPH are my favorites; ehwpit on railz is the only place I can even break 1000 these days. But 800 on maps like carena are still fantastic fun. So I mymap those for reasons other than pissing off Alpha, although how much he hates my favorites is always good for a chuckle.

i agree that yes some of the maps should go and new ones come in, not all though. Last time they took maps out they did not replace them, i think there were 3 or 4 taken out last time so the rotation is down 3-4maps from what it used to be. either way railz could use a fresh lineup

maps that should go simply because they are a server killer

TLTF (server killer)

q2dm8 (server killer, people complain it's too big when only a few are there)

locus - insta by maric (server killer, don't know the correct name for it)

gym (server killer)

ven_dm4 (Don't mind this map but alot complain about it and it is a server killer)

Jabs (Big ugly grey space map another server killer)

TLTF, Jabs and Gym aren't server killers (and if locus-insta is the map after dm8, it's one of the most fun maps on there when you get 3-4 guys using nades), you just really hate them so take off every time they come up. ven_dm4 is love or hate for everyone, so sometimes the game dies. dm8 is definitely a server killer; although personally we all know where I stand on it lol.

There's too many good maps to completely wipe the list. We could certainly use some new maps, but I can't really offer any suggestions either. The full mymap list has some good ones, but quite a few bad ones. Over the weekend I could poke around and make some suggestions (which Alpha will certainly disagree with since we have damn near the exact opposite taste in maps) from that list, with balance in mind (no ehwpit on regular rotation :) ).

But yeah the skill differential is what really brings the games down. Even as I get annoyed when everyone runs off on me, I can't deny some of you are so much better than me that I can't take more than a game or two. Like the other day this big gray water column came up, and travolta just stood at the top spawn raping the 2 pads. Impossible to even get off the pad since his aim is so good (underwater; can't move fast). Then he flipped shit when me and someone else stopped playing after 20 straight on-pad deaths; sorry, not playing when that thoroughly outclassed. Don't know what the solution to that one is besides more players so you're not always fighting the strongest player.

I'm sure this has been brought up elsewhere over the years, but what about the implementation of a vote to immediately change the map? There's been many times where too many people won't play the current map and leave rather than wait it out, leading to death of the game. If the reasons for not allowing it are policy rather than technical, it might be time to re-evaluate it considering how fragile games are on railz. Could even require a 2/3 or 3/4th vote; it would still save some server deaths from what goes on now.

Hey now I'm working on getting better. Only been back 3 months after 8 years of not playing.

So by all means enlighten this newbie as to the general idea of how to do it the cool way, and I'll get on it!

Not content with my domination of the Q2DM8 roof, I've been working on the DM1 roof. Expect to see more of me up there!

After I got up there, a couple others hopped on up and we had us a sky party!

In another ironic twist, while the cell didn't have a toilet, or food, or water... it did apparently have methamphetamine.

Chong claims the holding cells were filthy, and used a bag of what was later determined to be methamphetamines he found inside to stay awake.

Drugs can't even be kept out of maximum security prisons, yet there are those who still believe they can be eradicated from our whole country if we just spend more money, lock up more people for longer periods of time, and add more and more 'drug exceptions' to the US Constitution.

i find it incredibly rewarding to hyper the shit out of people who camp up there.

keep up the good work of providing interesting targets

That kind of attitude has taught me to stay away from the windows and just blindly throw nades  :nana:

^ it's more fun going to the roof/getting bfg, if you cut the time to get there in half ;)

I can't seem to DL that?? Keeps saying I can't DL attachments on this forum or something but I've DLed several demos from this subforum without a problem.

Jump & Trick Demos / Q2DM8 (Warehouse) Roof

If you've played with me when q2dm8 comes up, you know I head straight for that roof and jump up using grenades. Well, I finally recorded a demo so people can see how the timing is done. Enjoy, and watch out for the skynades!

I would have suggested INV but there's already one there (in an insanely difficult area to reach) and its kinda broken anyway.

Well I feel like a newbie for asking this, but where?? In stock dm8 or a modified version? I've been obsessed with grenade jumping up to the roof and didn't see it up there. Couldn't even find it with noclip just now. Can't recall ever seeing anyone with it either.

3box is a good map. I like the small open maps like that... carena, 2box4, 2box6, that other one really similar to carena, gym. When I played in the good old days, I lived for massive fph, and since no one plays lith anymore they're the closest I'll get to the glorious 1400-1600fph feeling from back in the day.

What's that underwater map? A lot of people seem to hate it but I love it. Need the file name to mymap it.
flypaper probably cause its very fun :D

Nope wasn't flypaper (or flypaper2), but those could be fun. After going one by one through the list I got from just typing 'mymap', I have located the map in question: ehwpit. Next time I see a big crowd on railz, It Is On! ;D

q2player was doing laps today. I asked what he was doing and he said 'what does it look like'. So I started standing in his path and a telefrag war (one of those maps where you can keep backing up to go through a teleporter over and over, which happened to be on his route) then he quit. Seems mostly harmless.
