Trouble Shooting / What server hosting do you use?

I am wanting to rent a server for Quake 2 (grapple + rail only), but I am unsure of who to trust for hosting since the game is pretty old. Any ideas on this?

1 - No Health.
2 - No Powerups.
4 - Weapons Stay.
8 - No Falling Damage.
16 - Instant Powerups.
32 - Same Map.
64 - Teams by Skin.
128 - Teams by Model.
256 - No Friendly Fire.
512 - Spawn Farthest.
1024 - Force Respawn.
2048 - No Armor.
4096 - Allow Exit.
8192 - Infinite Ammo.
16384 - Quad Drop.
32768 - Fixed FOV.
131072 - CTF Forced Join.
262144 - Armor Protect.
524288 - CTF No Tech Powerups.




I just really really really enjoyed playing the bigones map that can be seen at 0:45 secs in this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbsXdKTw1Ms . All the maps in that video were pretty sweet though, but my favorite rail only maps were the edge and the bigones one. I love the grapple hook in ra2. It makes the railing a lot of fun.

Thanks for the replies. I gave up on the server and cancelled my account with the company because they just couldn't provide the needed support. Plus I just had to come to terms with the fact that not enough people would play often enough to make it worthwhile. I will forever miss the q2 days, but I did have some fun in a few tasty servers today. I just wish DNF was moddable because that could be a sweet way to have some old school fun. Anyway, I appreciate all the helpou guys gave :-)

Thanks for the reply....I have the server hosted with a gameserver company. They keep forwarding me around trying to get someone that knows something about quake 2....I am guessing its not a popular choice these days (ha!). The RUN command was already there with the initial install they did. I am about to try a few things then I will post a picture of what it does when I try to connect if it doesn't work....or I will let you know that it works. Thanks again for the response...I really appreciate it.

I requested to join. I used to play Quake 2 like crazy. I was even there for the heat.net days lol. The game is still my favorite FPS game to date. Would love to get together with some  people and game sometime


I went by the names of KnottyDreads, pharcyded, and some others that I can't even remember lol. I was a rails only kinda guy mostly tho. Played a lot on ra2 servers ...and of course The Edge!

Hello everyone! It's pretty cool that an old quake community is still around...I will admit I was shocked anyone still played quake 2 these days lol. Anyway, I bought a server for Quake 2 because I love the game still to this day and nobody hosts the mode and style of gameplay I liked, but I need helping setting it up. I am trying to setup the game to use Rocket Arena 2 with the bigones map...railgun only and grapple hook. That's the old school style that I played many many years ago so I was wondering if anyone can guide me through this process a bit?

I have this in my command line:

The ip is a real IP address but I starred it out because I am not trying to advertise here or anything.

My server config looks like this:
