Quake / AIR servers DEAD
« on: March 15, 2011, 06:16:21 PM »
When are the AIR... servers going to be cut from the Server list?
I've not seen them active since I came back on this scene..
And, can more WOD servers be added?  THey're obviously popular..

Hmmmmm
Don't know the difference...
I put up a server, then start my game... the server and my game come from two different drives..

A "listen" server and "dedicated" server.... can you explain?  OR point me towards one?

My brother }{awkins and I used to put 12 sound packages on our computers and would play them back and forth.  IE, 'run forest run' when my brother would run w/1 health left and I missed a kill.
run forest was setup with the f buttons and we had 12 to choose from.  When I hit F1, we would both hear the same wav file.  Maybe there's a way to include it in the server.cfg?

Thanks,

I've been here before and have a new wrinkle..

I'd like to play sounds in other computers and mine while playing Quake2.

It used to work fine and now can't get it to work, even with my own server....

Past repllies advised anti-cheat devices made wav-file exchange suppressed, but I have my own server and it still doesn't work.  Any help where I can look for answers anyone?

Thanks, The Beast Within

Vaevictis?  !!

you're pretty cool.. LINKS AND ALL!

I got pretty far with that website and hit the wall with my router's name/password bullshit.  It's not mine and wasn't here when setup.  I have to track down the joker that actually set a password fot that thing.

I seem to remember a possible workaround on the site, but it's late and will attack again tomoorrow...

Thanks Q2BROTHER!

Trouble Shooting / Connecting to MY server

This is a tough question, but I've had SO good luck with the friendly, informative people here, I usually start here.

I've successfully gotten a server to run on my machine, and when it fires up, I even get an address!

I've sent two addresses the server has given me and my boy's Quake2 won't connect.

What else needs to happen for someone to find my address?

I've a family of a brother and two able boys that like to get into matches uninterrupted by people "dropping by".
And we'd like to use pre recorded sounds for fun.
I have a cable connection and my computer us wired into a Cisco router.  I dropped my firewall, but they still can't see me.
WHAT to DO now?

And is it possible to get recognized on TastySpleen as a server for Quake2?

Reply to my oWN POST..

I'll concentrate on setting up my own server, I guess.  It will help reduce the flow of unwanted players during our family get-togethers anway..

So.. Can anyone point me towards getting more information on setting up a server?

Thanks all.. Glad there's support.  We have four regular players.. one in NE, Two in AZ and me in WA...

Quake / Re: Making NOISE in Quake2 (wav presets)

OK, OK, OK...

Look guys.. the subject isn't Item Timers... (a subject after reading, I don't know much more about but want to..)
HOWEVER..
I've success with the WAV file playback.  I bound F1 to play a wav, now that's it's in MONO WAV format, but can't get any others F keys  to play any more soundclips.
The PROBLEM:
QUAKE resets my config for all Fstop presets  Are these keys not allowed in binds?

ANd where can A pro turned newbie learn about timers so I can keep up w/your discussion?

Thanks, THE BEASTWITHIN

Quake FAQs, HOWTOs, and Articles / Wav File usage
« on: October 15, 2010, 01:05:21 PM »
Back for another round of discussion for wav file use in game.

I got some good replies, and did get something to work in a non-networked game.

For those interested, you MUST use a NON-stereo Wave file, or you're S.O.L.  Audacity is a good freebie for this, although making the mono track took some time and patience to find.  (Project/new audio track)

ONE of the KEWLEST things of any game is the audio and communicating w/friends/family.  I really want to impliment this feature once my "TEN PACK" packages of wav files arrive for my family/friends to use, There HAVE to be servers that will allow this wav be sent back and forth.  KALI did it.

OK<> OK... QUESTION:     :help:
What servers allow the use of wav file enabling on other connected games?  ie: I play a sound, all other hear it IF they have the file in the right place.  (Baseq2/sound)  Thanks all... LONG LIVE Q2!!

Yes, Yes..
As you say.. All people playing have to have the files, but when one guy plays them everyone hears them.
SO to clarify:
the wav files need to be put in baseq2/sounds folder?
I want to remake the F stops.. so I bind F1 "play (filename).wav"?

Anyone comment on this?  Correct?
Thanks

Quake / Making NOISE in Quake2 (wav presets)
« on: October 12, 2010, 06:08:05 PM »
Plain and simple..
My brother and I used to play with ten wav file presets we could invoke with a keystroke during play.  We would both have the files in our Q2 directeries  (ie: Schwarzenegger saying, "I'll be Baack")  OR "Run Forest Run!"  type of stuff.

Can anyone comment on where I find the proceedure on how to do this?  Cnfg file alter, wave file placement in folder.. etc???

THANKS

Well.. I'm trying to figure out how to play this dang game better than I used to!

I didn't know about "Mouselook"... I'm assuming it's somewhere in the options menu, so I'll try it out. :bravo:

Thanks a bunch, and my brotherĀ  HAWKINS will suffer for it.
