Quake / DaHanG 2nd @ WSVG Toronto / Q4
« on: August 26, 2007, 12:03:13 PM »
Some of us followed DaHanG playing Toxic in the grand q4 final of WSVG Toronto. He lost the final deciding map by 2 frags after winning the first best of 3 maps 2-0. Still a very nice performance, great entertainment too  :grinelectric:

Congrats Tim  :rockon:

Same jump, from the armor-side. A lot easier as the landing isn't blind, as you can easily see the wall.

Jump & Trick Demos / q2dm1 - shells -> mega circled
« on: August 24, 2007, 10:33:55 AM »
Yeah, it's the same old jump, but because good old circle-jumps were mentioned in another thread, I decided to do this jump by plain circle because I hadn't seen done that way.

Bot Drop / Re: Forward Speed
« on: August 24, 2007, 08:24:15 AM »
You can't circlejump with sv_airaccelerate 1 , but you can do Quakeworld like bunnyjumps, meaning using the acceleration from turning while midair to get some speed, by letting go of the forward button and just using the strafe left/right while turning mid-air. It will give you speed as you turn corners etc opposed to strafejumping, but it's a different technique. Added a short demo I've uploaded here earlier as an example from ztn2dm2 on how to gain speed.

As for circlejumping it's a great style, The_King and audacity (RA2 player) still uses it for all moves including speedjumping around the maps, while Manip isn't as extreme but uses it for certain jumps (to mega etc). Still see a handfull people performing plain circlejumps to mega though. But actually everyone jumping to mega from armor (or most strafejumps in fact) use circlejumping, but they also strafe while doing it so it's usually called just a strafejump. But try jumping from armor to the box above ammopack without turning your mouse, it's not possible. Not sure, but I haven't found a jump that you can only strafejump to, not circlejump, so the distance gained is pretty much the same if the jump is executed perfectly. There are situations where plain circlejumps can be a nice way to set up unexpected shots as you jump or move around the map, because you're facing in a different direction than usual, so you get to work with different angles to set up your shots (running from mega towards ssg while circlejumping is a way to make your crosshair facing lower rocketlauncher while maintaining speed and direction of your movement).

Quake / Re: NADL predictions

I wrote some groupstage predictions, I'll write a little more indepth predictions once the playoffs starts to say a little bit more about each player. These are pretty superficial, mostly based on my feelings, because I haven't seen too many of these players in duels lately, especially on the maps played in the league.

The group-play will last for some weeks, more than a month, with one game per week. So there is plenty time to learn maps.

Once you get it, sign up for the North American Duel League. The signups closes the 15th, and first round of the groupplay starts Monday 20th of August. Top 4 from each group moves to the playoffs, so should give you plenty time to get back into shape as each round lasts one week.

Not only q2dm1 though, but the map is in the maplist!  :grinelectric:

Pyr3x, you really should  sign up for the North American Duel League. The signups closes the 15th, and it starts the 20th with groupplay. Plenty of time to get back in shape!!
