Or... here's another way to deal with it... and try to stay with me here, this gets super complicated...

...LEAVE THE SERVER. :sarcastic:

Nah why leave, I get teamed by aliens all the time, and will herd with a cow or two on occasion  ;) so either deal with it, bring a friend or I guess yes you can leave, but then you are just letting them win....

Most people probably don't use wah quite as much as they used to, but I tend to use it quite a bit. Mostly I use it in solo portions of songs, rocking back and forth on the pedal to create the wah sound. But occasionally I'll just engage it and sweep the pedal to one position and keep it there to act as a bit of an EQ filter. When I want a good bright Stevie Ray Vaughan kinda Texas blues sound, I'll toggle my single coil pickups on the guitar, then click the wah pedal and keep the toe all the way down to add tons of brittle crisp treble to the tone. If I want a good buzzy fuzz tone, I'll use only the neck pickup with the guitars tone knob cranked all the way down, then dial in some heavy distortion on the preamp, then engage the wah pedal and rock it to some place in the middle to accentuate and pronounce the hell out of the midrange. So a good sounding well made wah pedal has more uses than just making your guitar squonk like a duck, you just gotta play around with it enough to FIND those uses.

Reason "why" I like it? I guess mainly it reminds me of all the old psychadelic classic rock bands. I tend to use a good bit of chorus and flange effects in lead parts to add a thick wavy watery sound to things. I just get bored hearing dry guitar sounds when I write stuff. To my ear, my playing really isn't all that interesting, and some liberal usage of different effects helps to create a more otherworldly environment in the sound.

Here's a few instances in which I've used wah in some songs.

Focalor - War of Words
*Intro lead part containing auto-wah (not with a wah pedal, with an effect from the DigiTech rack unit) - starting at 0:06 and ending at 0:31
*Outro solo containing wah starting at 3:44

Focalor - Darkness Shines
*Wah held at one position to act as EQ filter starting at 3:04 and ending at 3:28 (I think, can't really remember)
*mutliple track solo, each track containing wah starting at 3:52 and ending at 4:16 (one track is played using a glass slide to create a bit of a siren effect)

Focalor - Paranoid (Black Sabbath cover)
*Solo containing wah starting at 1:33 and ending at 1:56

Focalor - Nocturnal Emissions
*Solo lead-in containing wah starting at 2:51 and ending at 3:18

Focalor - Inner Voice
*Intro portion containing wah as well as 4 or 8-voice stereo chorus starting at 0:22 and ending at 0:37
*two track harmonized solo, each track panned left or right about 10% to give a wider stereo sound and let each track be heard more independently, both tracks featuring heavy usage of wah - starting at 3:29 and ending at 4:28

Another thing... not really a huge fan of the rampant usage of two-hand tapping either. To me, getting in there and plucking the shit out of the note or gently plinking it has a lot more soul and character to it than all the mindless tapping that a lot of people are picking up again these days just for the wow-factor of it. It has almost no soul and emotion to it at all.

That's kinda what I don't like about a lot of these guitarist solo artists. They focus too much on what the lead guitar is doing and neglect to pay enough attention to what they could do to make the rest of the song better.

+1. and most of those kinda solo guitar acts are instrumental, with pretty much all focus going to the guitarist. just seems like a bunch of wankery to me tbh. although i've never been a fan of that kind of music in the first place so... :o

I'm not "letting them win", I'm just leaving. The ME is no longer a part of it. When lamer shitheads do that shit enough times to enough people, then I guess they're all either gonna have to ghost-cheat/camp each other, or cut it the fuck out and play the damn game normally. Bottom line, I don't change my approach to playing the game, and I shouldn't have to. Meanwhile, they DO change their approach, and it generates complaints based on their douchery. So one of us is likely to get dealt with by a server admin if shit goes on like that long enough. Care to guess which one will receive the spanking?

Camping and teaming by skins is fuckin' lame as hell, but I can accept that it's just gonna be a part of FFA occasionally and it ain't a big deal to me. Ghosting though? Come on, man. That's fucking retarded as hell. You can't get away with it on 1v1/tdm servers, so why should FFA be any different?

Trouble Shooting / Re: Repeatedly experienced severe crashes while playing Q2 online

I can run my system offline without experiencing any trouble for months, but whenever I go online and start playing Quake2, the trouble seems to start again. I even ran a 24h test with r1q2 and bots having fun on a LAN server, and it never crashed - I go online, and it crashes every day!

Nowadays our computers are always connected to the internet so better take the time to know and to configure your router the right way. Go to portforward.com and look under Routers > Portforwarding Guides and pick your router from the list then and look for Q2's setup in the games list. Also test some ports using their pfportchecker tool and of course check to see if what you really need for Q2 (27910) is open and functioning. And if you haven't tried it already, temporarily stop using anticheat, just to rule out as many things as possible. Maybe also think about changing your router's admin password. List_of_default_Router_Admin_Passwords

http://ask-leo.com/should_i_change_my_routers_password_and_if_so_how_often.html
(...) there is malicious software out there that, using Javascript in your browser, can actually attempt to access your router. Knowing the administrative password, if you've never changed it, that software can then reconfigure your router to disable many of its firewall characteristics and allow more serious malware to infect your system. (...)

For future problems with malware and especially boot virus crap I would suggest getting the free Avira Antivir Rescue cd. It's a Linux based downloadable rescue cd, which lets you scan the pc without having to boot your OS. There's a windows .exe version and the .iso version (The .iso can also be used from usb stick). The download links are always up-to-date but you can also update while running the rescue cd if you have internet connection.

I still exist, just haven't played Q2 in forever. Still occasionally check these forums, but more of a lurker than anything. Got a baby on the way, couple of weeks until he's here actually, so that's taken up some time. Moving here and there, general life things. I still miss this place though, miss playing Q2 with a lot of you guys (least anyone that remembers me that might be reading this). I spent a big chunk of time here a few years back (has it really been that long ago!?), and I'm so glad that this community still exists. Perhaps one day, when my kiddo gets old enough, and TS is still around, he'll be fragging with the best of them.

In any case, saw this thread with my name mentioned (3 years late no less  ) and figured I'd respond. Hope everyone is still having a fragtastical time in the land of Tastyspleen!
